BACKGROUND Impaired balance is a major problem in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD) resulting in an increased risk of falls and fall-related fractures. Most studies which analyzed the risk of femoral fractures in patients with idiopathic PD were performed either in specialized centers or excluded very frail patients. Closed intramedullary nailing of the femur is a complex technique but one that has considerable advantages. The choice of an appropriate point of entry into the proximal femur during introduction is vital, since an oblique insertion of the nail may lead to impaction of the implant and comminution of the proximal femoral fragment (Winquist, Hansen and Clawson 1984); this is particularly so in sm...

BACKGROUND Avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVNFH) typically constitutes 5 to 15% of all complications of low-energy femoral neck fractures, and due to an increasingly ageing population and a rising prevalence of femoral neck fractures, the number of patients who develop AVNFH is increasing. However, there is no consensus regarding the relationship between blood lipid abnormalities and p...

UNLABELLED The management of periprosthetic fracture around the knee remains a challenging problem. The objective of this article was to review the general concepts, treatment algorithms, and the overall treatment outcomes of femoral and tibial periprosthetic fractures after total knee arthroplasty. This article aimed to highlight the deficiencies of the current classification systems that fail...
