Among the services offered by the AliEn (ALICE Environment http://alien.cern.ch) Grid framework there is a virtual file catalogue to allow transparent access to distributed data-sets using various file transfer protocols. alienfs (AliEn File System) integrates the AliEn file catalogue as a new file system type into the Linux kernel using LUFS, a hybrid user space file system framework (Open Sou...

Data Grid is an infrastructure that controls huge amount of data files, and provides intensive computational resources across geographically distributed collaboration. The heterogeneity and geographic dispersion of grid resources and applications place some complex problems such as job scheduling. Most existing scheduling algorithms in Grids only focus on one kind of Grid jobs which can be data...

This demo aims to show faster file access over a MANET by use of a proxy cache middleware, called MobEYE.

I demonstrate a user-level le system tracing technique for Solaris and AFS. The results generally connrm previous studies. A notable exception is that long-lived les are more common than previously measured. I also show how to generate a list of les necessary at login time, and use it to improve workstation login speed by 24 percent.

In this paper we compare performance of buffered and mapped I/O in a Web server. We show that mapped I/O is an easy way to increase performance of a Web server on large files. To achieve performance improvement smaller files, map caching can be used. Map caching avoids extra data copying of the buffered I/O, as well as many file manipulation system calls (open, stat, map, close) which saves man...

IBM's Customer Information Control System (CICS) is the leading product family in the on-line transaction processing (OLTP) market, OLTP systems are being used by many enterprises to implement their daily business processes and manage operational data such as accounts, inventories, and orders. CICS/Distributed Data Management (CICS/DDM) implements the distributed file function of Systems Applrc...

In wireless access network optimization, today’s main challenges reside in traffic offload and in the improvement of both capacity and coverage networks. The operators are interested in solving their localized coverage and capacity problems in areas where the macro network signal is not able to serve the demand for mobile data. Thus, the major issue for operators is to find the best solution at...

File system administration directly or indirectly affects all users of computer systems today. In an organization, users interact directly with managed file systems, which provide a means of data storage. Users of on-line services, for example, search engines, social networks, photo and video sharing, web based email, etc., rely on managed file systems indirectly, for storing and accessing data...

We describe a novel on-line file access predictor, Recent Popularity, capable of rapid adaptation to workload changes while simultaneously predicting more events with greater accuracy than prior efforts. We distinguish the goal of predicting the most events accurately from the goal of offering the most accurate predictions (when declining to offer a prediction is acceptable). For this purpose w...
