Aesthetic concerns and functional abnormalities, such as dentin hypersensitivity, are often associated with gingival recession defects. Root coverage procedures aim to restore both gingival aesthetics and function in recession defects. The coronally positioned flap combined with the subepithelial connective tissue graft is one of the most widely used root coverage procedures. The present report...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) is the most widely used procedure for the treatment of gingival recession defects. Little is known, however, as to whether the apposed gingival flaps are more predisposed to develop plaque-related inflammation compared to healthy sites. This has salient clinical implications, as the long-term results of root coverage will...

Background and Aim: Several surgical approaches have been used to achieve root coverage. The Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft (SCTG) procedure has been shown to be a predictable means to treat gingival recession. Semilunar Coronally Positioned Flap (SCPF) is a simple mucogingival surgery to cover the exposed root surface without harvesting the palatal connective tissue. The purpose of this...

There are many etiological factors for nonplaque-induced gingival diseases, out of which physical trauma due to psychiatric reasons leading to self-infliction is less studied upon. This case report presents one such case which has been successfully treated stepwise where psychological counseling was done to restrain from habit followed by using an innovative laterally positioned periosteal pedi...

The gingiva surrounds each tooth and comprises the free gingival(gingival margin), attached gingiva and gingival sulcus. The attached gingiva is firmly attached to the underlying periosteum of the alveolar bone. It is continuous with the alveolar (or oral) mucosa and is demarcated from it by the muco-gingival junction. The free (or marginal) gingiva is that found coronal (ie towards the crown) ...

Patients that have an allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant are susceptible to developing chronic graft versus host disease (cGvHD). Often the oral mucosal is significantly altered due to this process. Occasionally, non-gingival soft tissue growths (NGSTG) also complicate the clinical presentation. We describe a patient that had oral cGvHD and NGSTG and discuss the challenges to treatment.
