Are the characteristic timbre and loudness of Bulgarian women's singing related to tuning of resonances of the vocal tract? We studied an Australian female singer, who practises and teaches Bulgarian singing technique. Two different vocal qualities of this style were studied. The louder teshka is characterized by a sonorous voice production. The less loud leka has a smoother timbre that is clos...

This paper deals with the accuracy of a numerical time integration scheme, the implicit Generalizedα method, when applied near resonant conditions in periodic steady-state vibrations of elastic linear and nonlinear systems. In order to evaluate errors, analytical solutions of Frequency Response Functions (FRFs) are determined by using the Harmonic Balance method in singleand two-degrees-of-free...

We discuss the degree of anharmonicity of dipole plasmon resonances in metal clusters. We employ the time-dependent variational principle and show that the relative shift of the second phonon scales as N−4/3 in energy, N being the number of particles. This scaling property coincides with that for nuclear giant resonances. Contrary to the previous study based on the boson-expansion method, the d...

Pure-tone song is a common and widespread phenomenon in birds. The mechanistic origin of this type of phonation has been the subject of long-standing discussion. Currently, there are three hypotheses. (i) A vibrating valve in the avian vocal organ, the syrinx, generates a multifrequency harmonic source sound, which is filtered to a pure tone by a vocal tract filter ("source-filter" model, analo...

We present a numerical study of the resonant high harmonic generation by tin ions in an elliptically-polarised laser field along with simple analytical model revealing mechanism and main features this process. show that yield harmonics behaves anomalously fundamental ellipticity, namely drop intensity ellipticity is much slower than for generated through nonresonant mechanism. Moreover, we pola...

We use the method of dynamical mean field thoery, to study the effect of Kondo resonance on optical third harmonic generation (THG) spectra of strongly correlated systems across the metal-insulator transition. We find that THG signals are proportional to the quasiparticle weight z of the Kondo peak, and are precursors of Mott-Hubbard gap formation. PACS 42.65.-k; 71.27.+a; 71.30.+h

Abstract Aiming at the harmonic resonance problem of photovoltaic inverter cluster system when it is incorporated into weak power grid, an active damper frequency division control method proposed to suppress resonance. Firstly, voltage signal measured by transformer separated according frequency, and then conductance value band controlled respectively voltage. Finally, output current feedback g...

The idea of using a resonant cavity to enhance conversion efficiency in cw second-harmonic generation was first discussed by Ashkin et al.,' who found that the conversion efficiency can be greatly increased by resonating either the fundamental or the harmonic field. Because of its simplicity, the scheme of employing a resonator to build up the fundamental power is the one most widely used in pr...

Vibration synchronized magnetic resonance imaging of harmonically oscillating tissue interfaces is proposed for cardiac magnetic resonance elastography. The new approach exploits cardiac triggered cine imaging synchronized with extrinsic harmonic stimulation (f = 22.83 Hz) to display oscillatory tissue deformations in magnitude images. Oscillations are analyzed by intensity threshold-based imag...

We investigate the mean energy, strength and width of the triple giant dipole resonance using sum rules. We point out that the excitation operator for the triple giant dipole resonance must be modified from the naive choice D 3. With the modified excitation operator, the strength and mean energy calculated in the Tomonaga model agree with the harmonic limit and the width is larger than √ 3 time...
