Abstract The United States is currently affected by widespread hepatitis A virus (HAV) outbreaks. We investigated HAV incidence rates among source plasma donors in the since 2016. Serial donations from HAV-positive frequent were analyzed for common biologic markers to obtain a detailed picture of course infection. found considerable increase with shifting outbreak hotspots over time. Although i...

The development of molecular biology techniques has modified research procedures for certain viruses, particularly hepatitis A virus (HAV) and enteroviruses. Accordingly, we designed cDNA and RNA genomic probes to detect viruses in shellfish in the environment. Better sensitivity was noted with RNA than cDNA probes : only 17/83 shellfish samples were positive with HAV and enterovirus DNA probes...

PURPOSE The decision and ability of primary care clinician to make recommendations for routine human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) testing and hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccines are shaped by knowledge of their patient's risk behaviors. For men who have sex with men, such knowledge requires disclosure of same-sex sexual behavior or sexual identity. METHODS Data were a...

The seroprevalence of Helicobacter pylori in a group of 1,043 healthy Japanese people was compared with that of hepatitis A virus (HAV), which was used as a marker of fecal-oral exposure. No statistically significant relationship was observed between seropositivity for HAV and that for H. pylori. Therefore, the fecal-oral spread of H. pylori is of limited relevance in Japan.

OBJECTIVES The study aimed to describe the seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) in HIV-positive adult patients in Taiwan between 2012 and 2016 and to examine the evolution of HAV seroprevalence between 2004-2007 and 2012-2016. METHODS Clinical information and data of anti-HAV antibody results were collected from 2,860 antiretroviral-naïve HIV-positive Taiwanese aged 18 years or older who...

Introduction: Enterically transmitted Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) and E (HEV) are the most common cause of Acute Viral (AVH) a major health concern in developing nations like India. Both viruses AVH spread predominantly through faecal-oral pathway, commonly contaminated water. Aim: To estimate prevalence HAV HEV infection patients presenting with AVH. Materials Methods: An analytical cross-sectiona...

Despite the increasing numbers of studies investigating hepatitis A diagnostic through saliva, the frequency and the pattern of hepatitis A virus (HAV) markers in this fluid still remains unknown. To address this issue, we carried on a longitudinal study to examine the kinetics of HAV markers in saliva, in comparison with serum samples. The present study followed-up ten patients with acute hepa...

BACKGROUND Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is a major cause of acute viral hepatitis worldwide. Annual medical and work loss costs of hepatitis A are significant even in low-endemic countries. It is recommended that each country should collect and review the information needed to estimate its national burden of hepatitis A to provide evidence for health policy makers to implement appropriate and cost-e...

We report the case of two patients in whom acute hepatitis A was associated with a marked and prolonged increase in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) viral load. Although in one patient the rise in HIV-1 RNA might also have been related to the interruption of antiretroviral therapy, we also observed a similar pattern in the other patient who had a stable undetectable plasma viraemia p...

Dear Editor, Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is highly contagious and causes liver disease that is symptomatic in more than 80% of adults besides children. The virus is widespread in all parts of the world and transmitted by the fecal-oral route (1). The infection is endemic in Africa except in South Africa. Moreover, Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa are at high risk of infection. Among the North Africa...
