Ribonucleotide reductases (RRs) are evolutionarily-conserved enzymes that catalyze the rate-limiting step during dNTP synthesis in mammals. RR consists of both large (R1) and small (R2) subunits, which are both required for catalysis by the R1(2)R2(2) heterotetrameric complex. Poxviruses also encode RR proteins, but while the Orthopoxviruses infecting humans [e.g. vaccinia (VACV), variola, cowp...
Thin planar pixel modules are promising candidates to instrument the inner layers of the new ATLAS pixel detector for HLLHC, thanks to the reduced contribution to the material budget and their high charge collection efficiency after irradiation. 100-200 μm thick sensors, interconnected to FE-I4 read-out chips, have been characterized with radioactive sources and beam tests at the CERN-SPS and D...
Abstract This study assesses bacterial denitrification at alkaline pH, up to 12, and high nitrate concentration, 400 mM. Two types of electron donors organic (acetate) inorganic (dihydrogen) were compared. With both donors, nitrite reduction was the key step, likely increase pH lead accumulation. Firstly, an acclimation process used: progressively increased in three cultures set 9, 10, or 11. m...
Dibismuth dioxychalcogenides, Bi2O2Ch (Ch = S, Se, Te), are a promising class of materials for next-generation electronics and thermoelectrics due to their ultrahigh carrier mobility excellent air stability. An interesting member this family is Bi2O2S, which has stereochemically active 6s2 lone pair Bi3+ cations, heterogeneous bonding, high mass contrast between its constituent elements. In the...
A comprehensive study on both the eco-physiological and productive response of potatoes to dynamic deficit irrigation is lacking. Therefore, aim was study, over two growing seasons potato cultivars—Arinda Timate, effects five regimes (I0–dry control, I1—irrigated I2—supply 100% maximum evapotranspiration—ETm from tuber initiation up 50% growth 0% ETm end growth, I3—supply I4—supply 75% growth) ...

áeñ = 2.22 in the infiltrated one (reducing the contrast at the same time). After inversion the mean dielectric constant decreases to áeñ = 1.41 and, accordingly, the L pseudogap energy shifts upwards (see Fig. 5). The peak width is a function of both the dielectric contrast and the filling factor of the structure. Bare opals present a contrast eSiO2/eair = 2.1 that shifts to epolymer/eSiO2 = 1...
Local density functional calculations on the isolated silicon interstitial, I1 and its aggregates, I2, I3 and I4 have been performed. Several geometries are considered for each aggregate and we report preliminary results on their energetically favourable structures. The properties of the low energy structures are calculated and compared with experiment.
We investigated the genomic properties of a rotavirus A strain isolated from diarrheic pheasant poults in Hungary in 2015. Sequence analyses revealed a shared genomic constellation (G23-P[37]-I4-R4-C4-M4-A16-N10-T4-E4-H4) and close relationship (range of nucleotide sequence similarity: VP2, 88%; VP1 and NSP4, 98%) with another pheasant rotavirus strain isolated previously in Germany.
The structure of the high-temperature scheelite-type polymorph of cerium niobium tetraoxide, CeNbO(4), has been determined using time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction data collected both in situ at 1073 K in air and in vacuo. In both cases, the structure was found to be tetragonal, with I4(1)/a symmetry and without any significant deviation from the stoichiometric composition.
