Introduction: Due to the increasing trend of antibiotic resistance in the Enterobacteriaceae family, treatment of infections caused by these bacteria has been difficult. The aim of this study was to identify of class I and II integrons and associated gene cassettes in clinical isolates of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, of 500 strains isolat...

Integrons are found in the genome of hundreds of environmental bacteria but are mainly known for their role in the capture and spread of antibiotic resistance determinants among Gram-negative pathogens. We report a direct link between this system and the ubiquitous SOS response. We found that LexA controlled expression of most integron integrases and consequently regulated cassette recombinatio...

pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important pathogens that causes nosocomial infections and shows high level of antibiotic resistance. integrons are one of the transposable elements in bacteria and their role in antibiotic resistance has been well demonstrated. the aim of this study was a molecular characterization of the integron genes and the determination of the resistance or sensiti...

conclusions antibiotic resistance gene cassettes may be carried on integron or other genetic elements. the purpose of this study was to detect integron or genomic islands involved in antibiotic resistance profile of the isolates of h. influenzae collected in this study. results of the twenty isolates, all (100%) were resistant to clindamycin, chloramphenicol and tetracycline, 95% to amoxicillin...

abstract aims: the increasing usage of antibiotics can cause resistance to the treatment of infections, which can caused by bacteria, e.g. pseudomonas aeruginosa. the aim of this study was to trace the class i, ii and iii integrons in isolates of p. aeruginosa of nosocomial infection and determining the antibiotic resistance pattern of the bacteria. instrument & methods: in this cross-sectional...

Two Escherichia coli isolates resistant to trimethoprim but negative for integrons carried two new resistance genes, dfrA24 and dfrA26, remotely similar to one another and to the cassette-independent genes dfrA8 and dfrA9. The dfrA24 gene was not associated with known mobile elements, while dfrA26 was associated with the CR1 common region.

conclusions the present study reports on a high rate of multi-drug resistance, the predominance of the frequency of class 1 integron, and the emergence of spa type t790 among iranian staphylococcus aureus strains. the results revealed that the dissemination of multi-drug resistance among staphylococcus aureus isolates may be associated with the presence of integrons. therefore, continuous surve...

Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica (S.) serovar Derby is one of the most prevalent serovars in pigs. The aim of this study was the investigation of S. Derby isolates for the presence of antimicrobial resistance and class 1 integrons and their gene cassettes. Forty-nine S. Derby isolates, obtained from different sources at four pig abattoirs (A-D) in Southern Brazil were analysed. Five isolates...

Integrons are best known for assembling antibiotic resistance genes in clinical bacteria. They capture genes by using integrase-mediated site-specific recombination of mobile gene cassettes. Integrons also occur in the chromosomes of many bacteria, notably beta- and gamma-Proteobacteria. In a survey of Xanthomonas, integrons were found in all 32 strains representing 12 pathovars of two species....
