How do designers of interactive media work on the dynamic aspects of their designs? Previous research has emphasised the role of gestures to express what users and computers do. This paper contributes with a detailed analysis of interaction design master students’ enactments. Two kinds of enactive means for expressing behaviour are identified: interaction walkthroughs and improvised role play.
Computational storytelling, in both games and the larger field of interactive media, offers a wide range of new narratological forms that are otherwise impractical–or impossible–to create. A variety of systems push at these possibilities, but largely the potential narratological complexity outpaces our human ability to effectively author for them. Because of this, authors are limited not so muc...
We propose a monotonic logic of internalised non-monotonic or instant interactive proofs (LiiP) and reconstruct an existing monotonic logic of internalised monotonic or persistent interactive proofs (LiP) as a minimal conservative extension of LiiP. Instant interactive proofs effect a fragile epistemic impact in their intended communities of peer reviewers that consists in the impermanent induc...
We introduce a framework for interactive visualization of global flow features in large unsteady 3D flow fields. It is based on selective visualization using dense precomputed integral lines (streamlines, path lines) linked together with all other data attributes. This way we are able to provide an uniform and interactive environment for custom feature specification and visualization of non-loc...
Large financial institutions such as Bank of America handle hundreds of thousands of wire transactions per day. Although most transactions are legitimate, these institutions have legal and financial obligations in discovering those that are suspicious. With the methods of fraudulent activities ever changing, searching on predefined patterns is often insufficient in detecting previously undiscov...
In this paper we describe a novel approach for supporting co-located collaborative sketching sessions. Our system is based on digital pen & paper and an interactive visualization that can be used by a session facilitator for examining live design activity. We argue that such visualizations may provide benefits for improving creative group work without the need to change traditional practices. A...

Abstract The role which “artifacts” play in design, and indeed the nature of such artifacts themselves are notably diverse. During a semester-long case study, we examined a variety of design artifacts and the ways they were able to impact the design process. Applying the kno...
