A range of novel 4-amino-6-arylpyrimidines has been prepared under mild conditions by an electrochemical reductive cross-coupling between 4-amino-6-chloro-pyrimidines and functionalized aryl halides. The process, which employs a sacrificial iron anode in conjunction with a nickel(II) catalyst, allows the formation of coupling products in moderate to high yields.

An iron titanate catalyst with a crystallite phase, prepared by a co-precipitation method, showed excellent activity, stability, selectivity and SO(2)/H(2)O durability in the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH(3) in the medium temperature range.

Tunable surface: The surface structure of the Fe-Pt bimetallic catalyst can be reversibly modulated between the iron-oxide-rich Pt surface and the Pt-skin structure with subsurface Fe via alternating reduction and oxidation treatments (see figure). The regenerated active Pt-skin structure is active in reactions involving CO and/or O.

Supported iron oxide nanoparticles on mesoporous materials (FeNP@SBA-15) have been successfully utilized in the esterification of a variety carboxylic acids including aromatic, aliphatic, and long-chain carboxylic acids under convenient reaction conditions. The supported catalyst could be easily recovered after reaction completion and reused several times without any loss in activity after up t...

A new iron-catalyzed, direct C-H amination of azoles at C2 has been developed by using formamides or amines as nitrogen sources. Imidazole is the only additive in the catalyst system and oxygen in air is employed during the transformation process.

OvoA is an iron(II) dependent sulfoxide synthase which catalyzes the first step in ovothiol A biosynthesis. This enzyme sulphurizes the C5 position of the imidazole side chain of L-histidine. We report the substrate specificity profile of this catalyst and present data which indicate that OvoA catalysis follows an thiol-ene type mechanism.

A porous Ni-Fe oxide with improved crystallinity has been prepared as a highly efficient electrocatalytic water oxidation catalyst. It has a small overpotential, a low Tafel slope, and an outstanding stability. The remarkably improved electrocatalytic performance is due to the porous structure, high extent homogeneous iron incorporation, ameliorative crystallinity, and the low mass transfer res...

Sulfur and iron co-doped titanoniobate nanosheets were prepared and evaluated in alcoholysis of styrene epoxide. The resultant co-doped catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance (yield of 99% with methanol as the nucleophile in only 1 h at room temperature) and may act as a promising candidate in many acid-catalyzed reactions.

Iron is a versatile redox-active catalyst and a required cofactor within a diverse array of biological processes. To almost all organisms, iron is both essential and potentially toxic, where homeostatic concentrations must be stringently maintained. Within the iron-restricted host, the survival and proliferation of microbial invaders is contingent upon exploiting the host iron pool. Bacteria ex...

Synthesis and reactivity of iron-dinitrogen complexes have been extensively studied, because the iron atom plays an important role in the industrial and biological nitrogen fixation. As a result, iron-catalyzed reduction of molecular dinitrogen into ammonia has recently been achieved. Here we show that an iron-dinitrogen complex bearing an anionic PNP-pincer ligand works as an effective catalys...
