We illustrate a formalism that allows to match the next-to-leading order cross section for the photoproduction of heavy quarks to the cross section obtained by resumming logarithms of pT /m to the next-to-leading accuracy, thus giving a sensible prediction for any value of pT. We present a comparison between our predictions and H1 and ZEUS data.

We discuss recent developments in multiloop calculations aiming eventually in computing the total cross section for e + e − annihilation into hadrons σ had in order O(α 4 s).

Upper limits on the cross section for Standard-Model Higgs-boson production in p¯ p → H + X at √ s = 1.96 TeV are determined for 100 < mH < 200 GeV/c 2. The contributing processes include associated production (W H → νb ¯ b, ZH → + − /ν ¯ νb ¯ b, and W H → W W + W −) and gluon fusion (H → W + W −). Analyses are conducted with integrated luminosities from 260 pb −1 to 950 pb −1 recorded by the D...

Azimuthal Asymmetries in unpolarized SIDIS can be used to probe the transverse momentum of quarks inside the nucleon. Furthermore, they give access to the so-far unmeasured Boer-Mulders function. We report on the first measurement of azimuthal asymmetries of the SIDIS cross section from scattering of muons off a deuteron target.

Searches for standard model Higgs boson production in p¯ p collisions at √ s = 1.96 TeV have been carried out for Higgs boson masses (mH) in the range 100 < mH < 200 GeV/c 2. The contributing production processes include associated production (q ¯ q →W/ZH), gluon fusion (gg →H), and vector boson fusion (q ¯ q →q ¯ q H). Analyses are conducted with integrated luminosities from 0.9 fb −1 to 5.0 f...

We consider strong and electromagnetic isospin violation in near–threshold pion–kaon scattering. At tree level, such effects are small for all physical channels. We work out the complete one–loop corrections to the process π−K+ → π0K0. They come out rather small. We also show that the corresponding radiative cross section is highly suppressed at threshold.

We propose a new definition of entropy for any mass m, based on gravitation and through the concept of a gravitational cross section. It turns out to be proportional to mass, and therefore extensive, and to the age of the Universe. It is a Machian approach. It is also the number of gravity quanta the mass has emitted through its age. The entropy of the Universe is so determined and the cosmolog...

Time-series–cross-section (TSCS) data consist of comparable time series data observed on a variety of units. The paradigmatic applications are to the study of comparative political economy, where the units are countries (often the advanced industrial democracies) and where for each country we observe annual data on a variety of political and economic variables. A standard question for such stud...

The startup of the Large Hadron Collider will allow scientists to probe energy scales that existed picoseconds after the Big Bang. Monte Carlo samples of many Standard Model processes are produced to simulate the conditions in the Compact Muon Solenoid detector. Data analysis techniques are developed to measure the cross section of the WZ 3e(e, 1u) decay channel. The results are al = 723.4 + 27...
