The first leaves (40 millimeters long) of 4-day-old light-grown Avena sativa L. cv Victory I seedlings contained a complete age sequence of cells from the base to the tip, and within these tissues all stages of chloroplast development could be observed. Although chloroplasts underwent progressive development, a marked increase in number of thylakoids per granum, in chloroplast volume, and in ch...

Nitrate reductase (NR) in maize (Zea mays cv W64A x W182E) roots has been stabilized in vitro by the addition of chymostatin to extraction buffer. Contrary to previous observations, levels of NR were higher in the mature root than in root tip sections when chymostatin was included in the extraction buffer. Two forms of NR were identified, an NADH monospecific NR found mainly in the 1cm root tip...

Hawaiian plants exposed to volcanic sulfur dioxide showed interspecific differences in leaf injury that are related to sulfur dioxide-induced changes in stomatal condutance. Species with leaves that did not close stomata developed either chlorosis or necrosis, whereas leaves of Metrosideros collina closed stomata and showed no visual symptoms of sulfur dioxide stress.

The limitation of mechanical manufacturing will result in a small tilt angle the sample stage horizontal direction, which decreases spatial resolution imaging near-field scanning microwave microscopy (NSMM). In this paper, we focus on correction and improve NSMM image. results electromagnetic simulation line scan measurement demonstrate critical parameters affecting sensitivity NSMM, such as le...

Collection data and biological information is presented on the Fergusobia (Nematoda: Neotylenchidae)/ Fergusonina (Diptera: Fergusoninidae) mutualism inducing galls on Angophora in Australia. Three species and two morphospecies have been recognised. Fergusobia colbrani Davies n. sp. is described from soft spheroid leaf galls on Angophora floribunda. It is characterised by a combination of morph...

Leaves of different Vitis vinifera L. cultivars, susceptible or resistant to downy mildew, Chasselas, Solaris, IRAC 2091 (cvs. Gamaret x Bronner) and Muscadinia rotundifolia were inoculated with Plasmopara viticola. Samples were then examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, by light microscopy and for their ability to synthesise stilbenes. These phytoalexins were strictly anal...

We developed a model, termed D-PSA-K, to estimate the accumulated potential damage on kiwifruit canes caused by bacterial canker during the growing and overwintering seasons. The model consisted of three parts including estimation of the amount of necrotic lesion in a non-frozen environment, the rate of necrosis increase in a freezing environment during the overwintering season, and the amount ...
