The potential of two bioinsecticidal formulations containing Brevibacillus laterosporus spores and azadirachtin, respectively, was assayed in laboratory and in comparative field treatments for the management of immature house flies on dairy farms. As already known for B. laterosporus, preliminary laboratory experiments with azadirachtin evidenced a concentration-dependent effect. Azadirachtin m...
The objective of the current study was to determine the chemical constituents and fumigant toxicity of the essential oil isolated by hydrodistillation form Juniperus foetidissima. The chemical composition of the essential oil was determined by GC and GC-MS. The essential oil included large amounts of monoterpenes 51.4%, with citronellol being the major compound thereof, and sesquiterpines 42.4%...
The susceptibility of two New Zealand populations of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, to insecticides from three classes was compared with the susceptibility of a standard North American population (Geneva 88) in laboratory assays at the New York Experiment Station during 1993. Leaf dip assays showed that the New Zealand populations had developed moderate resistance to permethrin compared...
Interferon inducers were used in the target-organ treatment of scrapie in mice. Intracerebral treatments began 24 hr prior to intracerebral inoculation of 10(4.8) LD50 of the Chandler strain of scrapie agent. The treatments included 30 and 0.3 microgram poly(I:C) given weekly 9 times, 45 microgram statolon given biweekly 7 times, or 1.5 HA units of Sendai virus given biweekly 6 times. All treat...
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to assess the susceptibility of Culex quinquefasciatus larvae to two pyrethroids (Cypermethrin and Deltamethrin), two derivatives of Avermectin (Ivermectin and Abamectin) and an organophosphate (Temephos). METHODS Third- and fourth-instar larvae of C. quinquefasciatus were exposed to different concentrations of insecticides (eleven repetitions) according to the W...
The isolation of propiconazole (PCZ) degrading bacterium BBK_9 strain was done from paddy soil, and it was identified as Burkholderia sp. based on the morphological characteristics and biochemical properties combined with 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. It has been seen that the factors such as temperature and pH influence the biodegradation process. The role of plasmid was studied in the de...
The anthelmintic activity of the eugenol against the fish parasite Gyrodactylus sp. was evaluated. After 1-h exposure to 5 and 10 mg/L eugenol, mortality of the parasites was near 80 and 90%, respectively. The concentrations used in the antiparasitic test were not toxic to Daphnia pulex (LC50 42.5 mg/L).
The efficacy of a photostable formulation of methoprene and two photostable juvenoids, fenoxycarb and pyriproxyfen, and their residual activity in inhibiting the emergence of adult cat fleas, Ctenocephalides felis (Bouché), was studied in topsoil. Nursery pots composed of clay, peat, and plastic, and wooden flats were used to hold soil samples. Treated soil samples were exposed to sunlight duri...
The amounts of active ingredient required to kill adult Ctenocephalides felis fleas on filter insecticide impregnated papers were determined in an attempt to compare the activity of different active ingredients. The following compounds were tested: bioallethrin, deltamethrin, esbiothrin and permethrin. The LD50 and LD90 against Ctenocephalides lelis were 121 and 770 mg/m 2 respectively for bioa...
Background Dengue fever is a serious public health issue in Pakistan for many years. Globally plants have been reported to contain compounds with insecticidal properties. These properties have been demonstrated more recently on the larval stages of mosquitoes. Therefore, Citrus cultivar seeds were evaluated for larvicidal potential against the primary dengue vector Aedes aegypti. Methods Extr...
