background: tuberculosis is one of the infectious diseases worldwide that has resurgence by the aids epidemic and led to the rise of drug-resistant tuberculosis patients. thus, it seems essential to monitor the drug susceptibility in tuberculosis patients. the new high resolution melting (hrm) method is simple, rapid and inexpensive for detection of the mutations responsible for drug resistance...

An advanced continuum model for nanoscale melting and kinetic superheating of an aluminum nanolayer irradiated by a picosecond laser is formulated. Barrierless nucleation of surface premelting and melting occurs, followed by a propagation of two solid-melt interfaces toward each other and their collision. For a slow heating rate of Q = 0.015 K ps(-1) melting occurs at the equilibrium melting te...

To precisely examine the electrical failure behavior of a metallic nanowire mesh induced by Joule heating (i.e., melting), a previously developed numerical method was modified with regard to the maximum temperature in the mesh and the electrical resistivity of the nanowire. A sample case of an Ag nanowire mesh under specific working conditions was analyzed with highly accurate numerical results...

the neogene intrusion masses in the noudeh-enghelab area located to the north of sabzevar ophiolite have cut the late cretaceous ophiolitic rocks, sedimentary- volcanic and eocene volcanic rocks and have been covered by pliocene and quaternary deposits. the margin is of lava with basalt, phyric andesite-basalt and andesite and the central parts (dome shaped) composed of phyric andesite-trachyan...

Colloidal nanocrystals are a technologically important class of nanostructures whose phase change properties have been largely unexplored. Here we report on the melting behavior of In, Sn, and Bi nanocrystals dispersed in a polymer matrix. This polymer matrix prevents the nanocrystals from coalescing with one another and enables previously unaccessed observations on the melting behavior of coll...

Simulations are reported to investigate solid superheating and liquid supercooling of two-dimensional systems with a Yukawa interparticle potential. Motivated by experiments where a dusty plasma is heated and then cooled suddenly, we track particle motion using a simulation with Langevin dynamics. Hysteresis is observed when the temperature is varied rapidly in a heating and cooling cycle. As i...

Through a flame-melting/rapid-cooling process, metastable forms of solid state compounds can be discovered. We describe here an example where both slow and rapid crystallizations of a stoichiometric "KInSnSe(4)" melt give rise to kinetic forms of KInSnSe(4). These forms (alpha- and beta-) convert to the thermodynamically stable gamma-form upon heating below the melting point.

Classical nucleation theory (CNT) has been extensively employed to interpret crystal nucleation phenomena and postulates the formation of an ordered crystalline nucleus directly from vapor or solution. Here, we provide the first experimental demonstration of a two-step mechanism that facilitates deposition of crystals on solid surfaces from vapor. Crucially, this occurs from saturated vapor wit...

Electron diffraction measurements on epitaxially grown crystals of orthorhombic n-hexatriacontane, n-C(36)H(74), give evidence for the chain-defect mechanism for linear chain melting. The derived structural model is also in accord with recent spectroscopic studies of odd-chain n-alkanes, and the diffraction data specifically exclude models based on helices or rigid chain rotors. Stability of a ...

Using the replica-exchange molecular dynamics method (REMD), we have investigated the size dependence of the melting behavior of iron nanoparticles. Comparing to conventional molecular dynamics (MD), the REMD method is found to be very efficient in determining the melting point by avoiding superheating and undercooling phenomena. With accurate determination of the melting point, we find that th...
