The provenance of observations from a Sensor Web enabled remote sensing application represents a great challenge. There are currently no representations or tracking methods. We propose a provenance method that represents and tracks remote sensing observations in the Sensor Web enabled environment. The representation can be divided into the description model, encoding method, and service impleme...

Abstract Phenomenology of the growing season The Normalized Difference Vegetative Index (NDVI) provided by satellites was employed as a replacement for quantifying output vegetative biomass. MODIS sensors 250-m data have been utilized terrestrial ecosystem modelling and monitoring. MODIS’s land surface are credible trustworthy because to their high temporal resolution broad spectrum wavelengths...

An operational method has been proposed to estimate the leaf area index (LAI) from satellite imagery in the framework of EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis (LSA SAF). This study evaluates the performance of the LSA SAF LAI retrieval algorithm when prototyped to VEGETATION/CYCLOPES and MODIS reflectances over Europe for the 2000-2003 period. The results indicate tha...

Several satellite-borne ocean colour Earth observation (EO) sensors are presently collecting data on an operational basis, including the Envisat MERIS sensor. This study aims at detecting differences in ocean colour EO sensor performances for ocean monitoring and in particular the study of algal bloom situations. The motivation for the present study is to explore how data from different sensors...

Monthly composite data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite sensor was used to reconstruct vegetation dynamics in response to climate patterns over the period 2001–05 for North America. Results imply that plant growth over extensive land areas were closely coupled to El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) effects on regional climate. Areas strongly tied to recen...

This note is a review of works on retrieval of snow grain size from satellite images. A theoretical background is given and a number of models and algorithms are described. Most of the works are based on Landsat images with 30 m resolution and 7 optical channels, but the hyperspectral airborne AVIRIS sensor with 20 m resolution, and SAR has also been used. An algorithm derived from Landsat imag...

* Corresponding author. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract – The universal pattern decomposition method (UPDM) has been successfully applied to simulated data for Landsat/ETM+, Terra/MODIS, ADEOS-II/GLI and others using ground-measured data. The UPDM is tailored to decrease dimensions of hyper multi-spectral data that have sensor-independent characteristics and thus exploit hyper multi-s...

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Leaf Area Index (LAI) Product (MOD15A2) was evaluated for the growing seasons of 2000 through 2004 in Alaska. The LAI estimate may be affected by three factors not directly related to canopy leaf area: snow melt, cloud contamination and conifer forest versus broadleaf shrub canopy type. Increases in MODIS LAI values occurred during the s...
