one of the big concerns of big cities is facing with the increase of fossil fuel vehicles in the roads. the cars intensify greenhouse gas emission in civic centers. one approach to reduce the emission is replacing the cars by plug-in electric vehicles (pevs). in spite of reducing the emission, pevs have some adverse effect on electric distribution networks. technical challenges such as load and...

Differential coding allows signal demodulation without carrier phase estimation, and thus is commonly used to cope with phase ambiguity and residual carriers. In a wireless scenario where the system transfer function is FIR due to multipath reflections, channel estimation and equalization is usually required. Inspired by the recent work by Tong [1] on blind sequence estimation, we propose a vec...

Frequency synchronization is a critical requirement for single-carrier frequency division multiple-access (SC-FDMA) uplink transmissions. Based on the key observation that the received signal at the base station can be formulated as the parallel factor analysis model, we present a joint carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation and compensation scheme for SC-FDMA uplink transmissions with inter...

For a multi-carrier spread-spectrum (MC-SS) system, the inner spreading can be optimized by applying M -ary orthogonal modulation. In this paper, we investigate the concatenation of maximum likelihood (ML) Viterbi decoding with M -ary orthogonal demodulation in a MC-SS system. The system operates over a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading indoor channel in the uplink. We first evaluate the bit ...

In recent years, spectral efficiency has become a key parameter in mobile radio communications. For Code Division Multiple Access systems, high spectral efficiencies can only be achieved by the application of multi-user detection schemes combatting the inherent multi-user interference. This paper analyzes the system performance of a quasi-synchronous OFDM-CDMA uplink for nonlinear successive in...

Doubly-selective wireless communication channels, i.e., those with significant selectivity in both time and frequency domains, arise in applications operating over wide bandwidths, at high carrier frequencies, and under high mobility conditions. Many systems designed to communicate over such channels are OFDMbased and employ large block lengths to combat capacity loss resulting from the use of ...

The device in conventional half-duplex WiFi networks cannot perform carrier sensing while in data transmission; thus it suffers from long collision duration. To mitigate this problem, this chapter introduces full-duplex (FD) technology into WiFi networks. A novel CSMA/CD protocol design is first presented for singlechannel FD-WiFi, which facilitates continuous carrier sensing and transmission s...

We investigate the joint effect of channel estimation and frequency flat transmitter and receiver I/Q imbalance on an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) system. We assume independent fading with identically and independently distributed (i.i.d) mirror carrier channel coefficients. Closed form expressions for symbol error rate and bit error rate of M-QAMmodulation are derived. We con...

This paper proposes a new blind adaptive channel shortening approach for multi-carrier systems. The performance of the discrete Fourier transform-DMT (DFT-DMT) system is investigated with the proposed DST-DMT system over the standard carrier serving area (CSA) loop1. Enhanced bit rates demonstrated and less complexity also involved by the simulation of the DST-DMT system.

Hybrid analog and digital beamforming transceivers are instrumental in addressing the challenge of expensive hardware high training overheads next generation millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) massive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) systems. However, lack fully hybrid architectures short coherence times at mm-Wave impose additional constraints on channel estimation. Prior works these challenges ha...
