A family with neuralgic amyotrophy (idiopathic brachial plexus neuropathy) associated with a multifocal sensory neuropathy is described. Four members over two generations were affected by neuralgic amyotrophy, inherited as an apparent autosomal dominant trait; two also had a multifocal relapsing sensory neuropathy with the clinical features of Wartenberg's migrant neuropathy.

PURPOSE To determine using the multifocal ERG technique whether there are any regional differences in the increase in the amplitude of cone electroretinograms (ERGs) during light adaptation. METHODS Multifocal ERGs were recorded with the Visual Evoked Response Imaging System from five normal subjects. Thirty-seven hexagonal stimulus elements and a recording time of 60 seconds were used. After...

F orward light scatter measurement provides information about optical imperfections as the cause of glare disability. Glare disability refers to a reduction in visual performance caused by a glare source, resulting in retinal contrast loss secondary to intraocular stray light. Lens extraction reverses the strong age increase in stray light, which is considered an independent source of symptoms....

Background—Initially based on histology, the diagnosis of renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is now based mostly on angiographic appearance because arterial tissue samples are rarely available. This retrospective crosssectional study aimed to assess the clinical relevance of a binary angiographic classification of FMD lesions (unifocal or multifocal) based on computed tomographic or mag...

One of the most problematic aspects of surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the frequent development of multiple tumors. Determination of the origin of multiple tumors, i.e., multifocal or metastatic, is important for predicting the clinical course of the disease after surgery. In order to clarify the origin of multiple tumors of HCC genetically, we examined patterns of loss of heteroz...

Recurrent gene fusions between the androgen-regulated gene TMPRSS2 and the ETS family transcription factors ERG, ETV1, and ETV4 have been identified in the majority of prostate adenocarcinomas (PCA). PCA is often multifocal with histologic heterogeneity of different tumor foci. As TMPRSS2 is a common 5' partner of ETS gene fusions, we monitored TMPRSS2 rearrangement by fluorescence in situ hybr...

Nonsmall cell lung cancers (NSCLCs) display a variety of morphological and molecular features. Accurate subtyping of NSCLC has been shown to predict patient survival as well as response rates and toxicities of specific drugs. Assessment of multifocal lung tumours and the distinction of synchronous primary tumours from intrapulmonary metastases represent an important problem as this decision sig...

BACKGROUND Multifocal and multicentric breast cancers have been regarded as relative contraindications for sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy, because initial validation studies noted an association with greater false-negative rates. The purpose of this study is to perform a meta-analysis of the literature evaluating the feasibility and accuracy of SLN biopsy in multifocal and multicentric breast...

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a diagnosis of exclusion primarily in children and adolescents. As part of the essential criteria for the diagnosis of CRMO, multifocal lesions must be identified. We present the case of an 11-year-old boy with CRMO, whose diagnosis was facilitated by the use of whole body magnetic resonance imaging (WBMR), but not isotope bone scanning.

We describe a case of progressive subretinal fibrosis and multifocal chorioretinitis along with its findings on both fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography. The progressive subretinal fibrosis syndrome is a severe subset of multifocal choroiditis. The clustering of lesions around the nerve optic head may mean that the disease is spread through the flow in and out of the eye around the op...
