The soil-borne fungal pathogen Verticillium longisporum is able to penetrate the root of a number of plant species and spread systemically via the xylem. Fumigation of Verticillium contaminated soil with Brassica green manure is used as an environmentally friendly method for crop protection. Here we present a study focused on the potential role of glucosinolates and their breakdown products of ...

Paecilomyces lilacinus has potential for pests control. We aimed to analyze mycelial growth and spore production in P. lilacinus strains in several agro-industrial residues and commercial media. This study suggests alternative nutrient sources for fungi production and that the biotechnological potential of agro-industrial refuses could be employed in byproducts development.

We have determined the antifungal susceptibilities of 34 clinical isolates of the dimorphic fungus Sporothrix schenckii to 11 drugs using a microdilution method. In general, the type of growth phase (mycelial or yeast) and the temperature of incubation (30 or 35 degrees C) exerted a significant influence on the MICs.

We have shown that Ca(II) ions, ethylene glycol-bis(beta-aminoethyl ether)-N,N-tetraacetic acid, LaCl3, and six known calmodulin inhibitors shift the yeast-mycelium dimorphic potential of Ceratocystis ulmi. Our data are consistent with the conclusions that Ca(II)-calmodulin interaction is necessary for mycelial growth in C. ulmi and that the absence of this interaction leads to the yeast phase.

Rhizobium sp. strain TBD182, isolated from a novel hydroponics system, is an antagonistic bacterium that inhibits the mycelial growth of Fusarium oxysporum but does not eliminate the pathogen. We report the draft genome sequence of TBD182, which may contribute to elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of its fungistatic activity.

• Mycorrhizal mycelia can connect trees and seedlings. Carbon nutrients be transported through the mycelium. Trees may potentially nourish their offspring via mycelial interconnections. Severing of connections improves seedling growth in boreal forests. Conflicting evidence calls for more experimental work field.

Alternaria alternata (Fr.) Keissler, grown in drop culture, produced alternariol and alternariol monomethyl ether in late growth phase. Production was almost completely inhibited when the fungal cultures were exposed to white light (180 W/m2), although mycelial dry weight was not significantly affected. The fungus was most sensitive to light during the exponential growth phase. Twelve hours of ...

Histoplasmin was originally defined by Zarafonetis and Lindberg (1941) as "the antigenic substance or substances of Histoplasma capsulatum" Darling. The term, however, is now used generally to indicate the filtrate derived from the growth of the mycelial phase of Histoplasma in a liquid synthetic medium and capable of producting a positive skin reaction in sensitized animals and man. The histop...

chickpea blight caused by didymella rabiei is considered as the most important disease of chickpea in kermanshah province. the disease is seed borne in addition to being persistent on infected residues, secondary infection taking place through pycnidiospores. in laboratory tests, the effects of six fungicides were tested at : 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, 10.0 and 100.0 ?g.a.i.ml-1 csma(chickpea seed meal ag...
