We describe an outbreak of Sphingomonas paucimobilis in 13 newborn infants with septicemia and septic shock. Fifteen available isolates were obtained from patients and distilled water. Pulsed field gel electrophoresis showed that there was a cross-transmission of S. paucimobilis in eleven patients but these types were not the same the isolate obtained from the distilled water. The outbreak was ...
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Klebsiella spp led to serious concern about septicaemic neonates in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) due to high resistance against commonly used antimicrobial agents. Knowledge of disease burden and information on resistance to antimicrobials are required for proper management of such cases in NICUs. Here we report th...
Sepsis-related morbidity and mortality are increasing concerns in all Neonatal Intensive Care Units, with reported incidences that are dramatically high regardless of the improvements in the quality of neonatal assistance. Preterm neonates display clinical characteristics that make them prone to infections. Neonatal sepsis is one of the major causes of neonatal death in developing countries. Di...
INTRODUCTION Pantoea agglomerans is a plant pathogen which very rarely causes an opportunistic infection. Human beings are usually infected by thorn prick injuries or by contaminated parenteral fluids. Pantoea agglomerans has been reported as a cause of neonatal sepsis very rarely and to the best of our knowledge this is the first reported case from India. CASE PRESENTATION A 4-day-old Asian ...
Escherichia coli is a microorganism that found in the normal intestinal microbiota of humans and warm-blooded animals, causing or extra-intestinal infections. Many pathogenic E. strains can cause diarrhea, septicemia, neonatal meningitis, mastitis, urogenital system infections various intra-abdominal, lung, soft tissue skin pets. Determining genotypic phenotypic characteristics isolated from an...
PURPOSE to describe adverse perinatal outcomes in patients with fetal blood flow centralization, using the relationship between the pulsatility indexes of the middle cerebral and umbilical arteries (MCAPI/UAPI), and between the resistance indexes of the middle cerebral and umbilical arteries (MCARI/UARI), as well as to compare both diagnostic indexes. METHODS 151 pregnant women with diagnosis...
ColV plasmids of extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) encode a variety of fitness and virulence factors and have long been associated with septicemia and avian colibacillosis. These plasmids are found significantly more often in ExPEC, including ExPEC associated with human neonatal meningitis and avian colibacillosis, than in commensal E. coli. Here we describe pAPEC-O103-ColBM, ...
