Molecular dynamics simulations of bilayers in a surfactant/co-surfactant/water system with explicit solvent molecules show formation of topologically distinct gel phases depending upon the bilayer composition. At low temperatures, the bilayers transform from the tilted gel phase, Lβ', to the one dimensional (1D) rippled, Pβ' phase as the surfactant concentration is increased. More interestingly...

A Neural Network-based Controller for a Single-Link Flexible Manipulator Using the Inverse Dynamics Approach This thesis presents an intelligent strategy for controlling the tip position of a flexible-link manipulator. Motivated by the well-known inverse dynamics control approach for rigid-link manipulators, two multi-layer feedforward neural networks are developed to learn the nonlinearities o...

We present a robust non-iterative algorithm to design optimal minimum phase digital FIR lters with real or complex coe cients. We derive (1) the discrete Hilbert transform (DHT) of the complex cepstrum of a causal complex minimum phase sequence, and (2) the minimum fast Fourier transform length for computing the DHT to achieve a desired coe cient accuracy.

computational fluid dynamics (cfd) simulations of gas-solid flow through a positive low-pressure pneumatic conveyor were performed using eulerian-eulerian framework. pressure drop in pneumatic conveying pipelines, creation and destruction of plugs along the horizontal and vertical pipes, effect of 90° elbows and u-bends on cross-section concentrations, and rope formation and dispersion were num...

For non-minimum phase plants, a partial LTR design of optimal output disturbance cancellation controllers is discussed. A target recoverable by the partial LTR procedure is identified as an output injection with a frequency-shaped gain matrix. The partial LTR result is used to clarify system-theoretic meaning of enforcing the minimum phase LTR procedure. It is shown that the partial LTR procedu...

The phase ordering dynamics of coupled chaotic bistable maps on lattices with defects is investigated. The statistical properties of the system are characterized by means of the average normalized size of spatial domains of equivalent spin variables that define the phases. It is found that spatial defects can induce the formation of domains in bistable spatiotemporal systems. The minimum distan...

We consider properties of critical points in the interacting boson model, corresponding to flat-bottomed potentials as encountered in a second-order phase transition between spherical and deformed γ-unstable nuclei. We show that intrinsic states with an effective β-deformation reproduce the dynamics of the underlying non-rigid shapes. The effective deformation can be determined from the the glo...

This paper considers a robust gain-scheduled control approach for the planar vertical takeoff aircraft dynamics. The uncertain property of the aircraft mass, moment, and the non-minimum phase parasitic coupling are all addressed by considering their reasonable range in the progress of controller design. An approach of composite control law is performed addressing all the inherent uncertainties ...
