In the paper, we present numerical results on characterization of transmitting properties of wideband filters based on linear and nonlinear photonic crystals confined with the waveguide. Novel characteristics of the PhC filters such as density of modes maps and transmission maps are computed, and their efficiency is analyzed. Presented characteristics can be used as an auxiliary optimization to...

This paper represents the study of light sources for optical communication through the optical fiber. For this purpose, the ideal light source characteristics have been studied. According to the study, the semiconductor LASER diodes are preferable sources over LEDs. From the family of LASER diodes, Distributed Feedback (DFB) lasers are considered as source. They have low threshold current and h...

Photonic crystal slab line defect waveguides with slightly small innermost holes are theoretically expected to show light transmission with low-group-velocity and low-dispersion (LVLD) characteristics owing to a linear and almost flat photonic band. In this study, the LVLD characteristics of such waveguides were experimentally confirmed by using modulation phase shift measurement and transmissi...

Crosstalk and noise characteristics of non-linear all optical loop mirror (NOLM) demultiplexer and terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer (TOAD) are investigated in this paper. The best demultiplexing conditions are studied in order to minimise the crosstalk and noise, and to achieve reduced power penalty for both all-optical demultiplexing schemes.

This work describes an experimental system for sensing and transmission of electric signals using optical coherence modulation of light. The system consists of a Ti:LiNbO3 optical coherence modulator acting as electric signal sensor. The main characteristics of coherence-modulated transmissions include the need of using broad-band optical sources and integrated optics lithium niobate electro-op...

We present the state of development of the practical low-loss and low-dispersion terahertz fibers. We investigate the optical characteristics of two-wire plasmonic waveguides, porous, and foam-based dielectric waveguides and highlight their advantages and disadvantages. Our research group demonstrated a hybrid metal-dielectric fiber resulting from fusion of the two aforementioned types of waveg...

A 30GHz optically injection-locked self-oscillating optoelectronic mixer (OIL-SOM) is implemented with a high-performance InP/InGaAs heterojunction phototransistor. The sub-harmonic conversion efficiency and phase noise characteristics of OIL-SOM are investigated and used for analyzing OIL-SOM-based 60GHz radio-on-fiber downlink data transmission performance. The OIL-SOM characteristics provide...

The facilities of an undergraduate optics teaching laboratory that was developed with NSF support have been incorporated in an established course in optical signal transmission. Students with majors in physics and engineering have learned professional optics techniques for evaluating the characteristics of optical fibers and obtained hands-on experience with optical communications.

PILOT, the Pathfinder for an International Large Optical Telescope, is proposed as a 2.4 m diameter optical/infrared telescope to be located at Dome C, Antarctica. The “strawman” optical configuration and instrument suite for PILOT described here is designed to take advantage of the unique atmospheric characteristics found at this site.

In this work, we report, optical properties of Cd1-xSnxTe quantum dots (x= 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15) synthesized in water using thioglycolic acid (TGA) as a modifier agent. The optical characterization of the samples was performed through absorption (UV) and photoluminescence spectra (PL). A red shift absorption and fluorescent emission peaks was observed which can be related t...
