previous in vitro work on rabbit knee joint vessels showed that vasoconstrictor effects of nerve stimulation and administration of α-adrenoceptor agonists were mediated predominantly by α1-adrenoceptors5,9 the present experiments were performed to assess the nature of α-adrenoceptor subtypes within these blood vessels in vivo. dose/response relationships for adrenaline and noradrenaline produce...

Autonomic reflexes enable the cardiovascular system to respond to gravitational displacement of blood during changes in posture. Spontaneous oscillations present in the cerebral and systemic circulation of healthy subjects have demonstrated a regulatory role. This study assessed the dynamic responses of the cerebral and systemic circulation upon standing up and the posture dependence of spontan...

We present a boundary control law that stabilizes the Hartman profile for low magnetic Reynolds numbers in an infinite magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) channel flow. The proposed control law achieves stability in the L2 norm of the linearized MHD equations, guaranteeing local stability for the fully nonlinear system. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Since a few years, the Residual Distribution (RD) methodology has become a more mature numerical technique. It has been applied to several physical problems : standard aerodynamic problems, MHD flows, multiphase flow problems, the Shallow Water equations, aeroacoustic, to give a few examples [1,2,3]. There are also interesting contributions from other groups. These schemes are devoted to steady...

We present preliminary results from two computational magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) studies of magnetic nozzles. The first study models the magnetic nozzle expansion of a plasma into a near vacuum with a resistive MHD solver. Results from resistive MHD simulations suggest that further model development is necessary to replicate experimental results within the desired physical regime. The second stu...

We present numerical analysis of the lateral movement a deformable spherical capsule in pulsatile channel flow, with Newtonian fluid almost inertialess condition and at small confinement ratio $a_0/R = 0.4$, where $R$ $a$ are radius. find that speed axial migration can be accelerated by flow pulsation specific frequency. The increases oscillatory amplitude, while most effective frequency remain...

We investigated the validity of transcranial Doppler recordings for the analysis of dynamic responses of cerebral autoregulation. We found no significant differences in percentage changes among maximal (centerline) blood flow velocity, cross-sectional mean blood flow velocity, and signal power-estimated blood flow during 24-mm Hg stepwise changes in arterial blood pressure. We investigated bloo...

The attractiveness of liquid metal blankets depends strongly on the degree of which peak pressures and temperatures can be controlled. These, in turn, are determined by the MHD pressure drop and velocity field. Accurate methods of predicting the pressure drop, velocity and temperature profiles in liquid metal blankets are necessary for blanket design and for plarming and analysis of experiments...

Small-scale, cyclic, transverse motions of plasma threads are usually seen in solar prominences, which often interpreted as magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves. Here, we observed small-scale decayless oscillations a quiescent prominence, and they appear to be omnipresent. The oscillatory periods the emission intensity proxy for line-of-sight Doppler shift about half period displacement oscillations...

This article is concerned with the analysis of blood flow through arterial catheterization (widening of arteries by a balloon in the presence of mild stenosis), when blood is represented by MHD Newtonian fluid. The mild stenosis approximation is used to solve the problem. A uniform magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the porous artery. A mathematical model is developed and analyzed by us...
