A simplified finite-element model for wound healing is proposed. The model takes into account the sequential steps of dermal regeneration, wound contraction, angiogenesis and wound closure. An innovation in the present study is the combination of the aforementioned partially overlapping processes, which can be used to deliver novel insights into the process of wound healing, such as geometry re...

We describe a case of sulfhemoglobinemia associated with toxic paint ingestion. Blood gases, oxygen content, and fractional hemoglobin derivatives were assayed with Radiometer 520 and OSM3 instruments. Although the CO-oximeters indicated the presence of sulfhemoglobin (SulfHb), the results were not quantitative. An OSM3 service software program was activated to obtain the actual concentrations ...

Here we present an exceptionally stable bioelectrocatalytic architecture for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction using a carbon nanotube electrode as the electron donor and a fungal enzyme as electrocatalyst. Controlling oxygen content in the electrolyte enables generation of a directly readable barcode from monitoring the enzyme response.

We present a new concept of integrating a micropipette within a closed microfluidic system equipped with optical tweezers and a UV-Vis spectrometer. A single red blood cell (RBC) was optically trapped and steered in three dimensions towards a micropipette that was integrated in the microfluidic system. Different oxygenation states of the RBC, triggered by altering the oxygen content in the micr...

The phase transformation between the orthorhombic and tetragonal structures of six high-T c superconductors, Ba2RCu3O7- δ , where R = Nd, Sm, Gd, Y, Ho, and Er, and δ = 0 to 1, has been investigated using techniques of x-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis/thermogravimetric analysis (DTA/TGA) and electron diffraction. The transformation from the oxygen-rich orthorhombic phase to the ...

A miniature Nernstian-type oxygen sensor employing an ionically conducting stabilized zirconia solid electrolyte and an embedded internal reference electrode is developed and is tested in the temperature range 275– 425 °C. It is intended for in situ monitoring of oxygen content in deposition and growth environments. Advantages of this sensor are in situ generation of the Ni/NiO two phase intern...

A mathematical model has been analyzed for in-situ bioremediation with the purpose of remediating organic contaminated soil. Oxygen rich water when passed through the porous media of soil activates the aerobic microorganisms, leading to the biodegradation of the organic content. The model equations comprise three convection-dispersion partial differential solution of these equations has been co...

the hybrid molten/solid in2o3 - 30-48 wt.% bi2o3 oxide materials were studied with respect to their transport properties. the conductivities, oxygen ion transport numbers and oxygen permeation fluxes have been measured by using the four-probe dc, volumetric measurements of the faradaic efficiency and gas flow techniques, respectively. we show that the oxygen permeability of the hybrid molten/so...
