We report the microwave synthesis and characterization of Au and Pd nanoparticle catalysts supported on CeO2, CuO, and ZnO nanoparticles for CO oxidation. The results indicate that supported Au/CeO2 catalysts exhibit excellent activity for low-temperature CO oxidation. The Pd/CeO2 catalyst shows a uniform dispersion of Pd nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution within the ceria support. A...

We demonstrate rapid microfluidic fabrication of hybrid microparticles composed of functionalized viral nanotemplates directly embedded in polymeric hydrogels. Specifically, genetically modified tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) templates were covalently labeled with fluorescent markers or metalized with palladium (Pd) nanoparticles (Pd-TMV) and then suspended in a poly(ethylene glycol)-based solution...

Stable palladium nanoparticles were prepared by the passivation of palladium–carbon covalent linkages by the reduction of diazonium derivatives. The resulting particles were characterized by TEM, UV-vis, FTIR, and NMR measurements. Interestingly, in electrochemical studies of the electronic conductivity of the particle solid ensembles, Pd–biphenyl particles exhibited metallic temperature depend...

Nanopalladium catalysts can be synthesized by the precipitation of palladium (Pd) on the surface of bacteria leading to the production of biogenic Pd nanoparticles (bio-Pd). For example, Shewanella oneidensis can reduce Pd(II) and subsequently precipitate it as Pd(0) nanocrystals on their cell wall and in their periplasmic space when a hydrogen donor is provided (De Windt et al., 2005). No expe...

p-Phosphonic acid calix[4]arenes render high stability to exfoliated graphenes in water. These calix[4]arenes modified graphenes can be used as highly effective substrates to nucleate ultra-small Pd nanoparticles, which in turn serve as galvanic reaction templates for the generation of high density 2D arrays of Pt nanoparticles.

The inner tubes of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have a significant promotion effect on the electrocatalytic activity of Pd nanoparticles (NPs) for the ethanol oxidation of direct alcohol fuel cells (DAFCs) and Pd NPs supported on CNTs with 3-7 walls show a much higher activity as compared to that supported on typical single-walled and multi-walled CNTs.

Mesoporous polyacrylamides (PAMs) with tunable porosities were synthesized in 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborates ([Cnmim][BF4], n = 4, 6, 8, 10). The as-synthesized PAM was used as a support for Pd nanoparticles and the Pd/PAM composite showed high catalytic activity and selectivity for the hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene reaction to yield p-chloroaniline.

We report a solution phase synthesis of monodispersed mesoporous Pd nanoparticles (MPNs) with narrow particle size distributions. The average particle sizes can be controlled to a range of 25 nm to 42 nm, by utilizing cationic surfactants (as structure-directing agents) and triblock copolymers (as protective agents for controlled Pd deposition). The obtained MPNs exhibit very high electrocataly...

Large attention has been devoted worldwide to the investigation of hydrogen sensors based on various Schottky diodes. We prepared graphite semimetal Schottky contacts on polished n-InP and n-GaN wafers partly covered with nanoparticles of catalytic metals Pd or Pt by applying colloidal graphite. Metal nanoparticles were deposited electrophoretically from colloids prepared beforehand. Deposited ...
