A number of studies have evidenced that handheld devices are appropriate tools to facilitate face-to-face collaborative learning effectively because of the possibility of ample social interactions. Group Area Network, or GroupNet, proposed in this paper, uses handheld devices to fill the gap between Local Area Network and Body Area Network. GroupNet is an independent network where all members a...

We propose here an analysis of a rich dataset which gives an exhaustive and dynamic view of the exchanges processed in a running eDonkey system. We focus on correlation in term of data exchanged by peers having provided or queried at least one data in common. We introduce a method to capture these correlations (namely the data clustering), and study it in detail. We then use it to propose a ver...

We propose an analysis framework for peer-to-peer (P2P) networks and use it to compare a few optimal content distribution strategies. We propose new strategies and obtain bounds on the performance of any P2P network depending on individual peer behavior. The analysis provides insights on how P2P networks perform when dealing with flash crowds.

In this paper we tackle the issues of exploiting the concepts of social networking in processing similarity queries in the environment of a P2P network. The processed similarity queries are laying the base on which the relationships among peers are created. Consequently, the communities encompassing similar data emerge in the network. The architecture of the presented metric social network is f...

Peer-to-peer systems have gained widespread popularity for supporting resource location and distribution applications. To response to this, a number of peer-to-peer network architectures have been developed, each supporting a subset of application types, though no unifying P2P network architecture has emerged that is suitable for supporting today’s diverse peer-to-peer systems. The heterogeneou...

The focus of this paper is the searching behavior in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) communities and in that context, will discuss potential for enhancement of the P2P protocol using searching behavior. Due to excessive network traffic, network scalability is a major P2P problem. The purpose of this paper is to study searching behavior by using log files and subsequently, will propose solutions to reduce th...

We consider the problem of designing an efficient and robust distributed random number generator for peer-to-peer systems that is easy to implement and works even if all communication channels are public. A robust random number generator is crucial for avoiding adversarial join-leave attacks on peer-to-peer overlay networks. We show that our new generator together with a light-weight rule recen...

With the development and popularization of Internet, P2P streaming media traffic has become the most important part of the variety kinds of network traffic. Therefore, the study of P2P streaming media traffic characteristics has important significance for the analysis and identification network traffic. In this paper, on the basis of studying on the system mechanism and the transmission feature...

Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks and applications represent an efficient method of distributing various network contents across the Internet. Foremost among these networks is the BitTorrent protocol. While BitTorrent has become one of the most popular P2P applications, attacking BitTorrent applications recently began to arise. Although sources of the attacks may be different, their main goal is to s...

The new p2p networking paradigms o er new possibilities for content ditribution over the Internet. The lack of central management and control over the available information used by agents to make decisions is a key characteristic of p2p systems and in uences their performance. Customer peers interchange roles with provider peers, and compete in this new networked economy. In this paper we propo...
