Five indigenous Aspergillus flavus strains MTCC-2206, 1884, 1883, 1783 and 2456 were screened for the secretion of quercetinase. Fungal strains MTCC-2206, 1884, 1883, and 1783 were found to secrete the quercetinase in the range of 0.24-0.36 enzyme unit/mL of the culture medium, while MTCC-2456 secreted only 0.04 enzyme unit/mL. The enzymatic characteristics of quercetinase were determined. The ...

Gallic acid (GA), rutin(R), quercitin (Q), ellagic acid (EA) and sitosterol(S) isolated from the methanolic extract of the leaves of Tectona grandis were formulated as 0.2 % ointment in emulsifying base and were evaluated for their wound healing activity. The animals were divided into eight groups of six animals each. Groups 1 used as control, group 2 used as a standard i.e. nitrofurazone ointm...

Ferrate (Fe(VI), K2FeO4) has attracted much attention in water treatment for its high redox potential, especially under acidic conditions. Although interests have been arising the performance of Fe(VI) at pH below 7.0, a contradicting trend second order reaction rates (kapp) was observed conditions, and reactive species (i.e., high-valent iron or hydroxyl radicals (HO•)) oxidation remains uncle...

Pectate lyase (PL) was produced by the filamentous fungus Penicillium viridicatum RFC3 in solid-state cultures of a mixture of orange bagasse and wheat bran (1 : 1 w/w), or orange bagasse, wheat bran and sugarcane bagasse (1 : 1 : 0.5 w/w), and in a submerged liquid culture with orange bagasse and wheat bran (3%) as the carbon source. PL production was highest (1,500 U mL(-1) or 300 Ug(-1) of s...

Aluminum-based water treatment residue (Al-WTR) generated during the drinking water treatment process is a readily available recycled material with high phosphorus (P) adsorption capacity. The P adsorption capacity of Al-WTR generated from Singapore’s water treatment plant was evaluated with reference to particle size range, adsorption pH and temperature. Column tests, with WTR amendments in sa...
