In this study, compounds with a carboxy ester in lieu of the phosphate ester at the 3'-position have been employed to inhibit the ribonucleolytic activity of ribonuclease A (RNase A). Phosphates at the 3'-position of pyrimidine bases are well-known inhibitors of the protein. We have investigated the inhibition of RNase A by 3'-O-carboxy esters of thymidine. The compounds behave as competitive i...

fecl3.6h2o was used as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of highly functionalized piperidines via a one-pot five-component reaction of aromatic amines, aromatic aldehydes and β-keto esters in etoh at room temperature. the remarkable advantages offered by this method are good yields, simple procedure, short reaction times, no need to column chromatography and easy work-up. the structures o...

The lipid A component of lipopolysaccharides from Fusobacterium nucleatum Fev 1 consists of beta-1',6-linked D-glucosamine disaccharides, which carry two phosphate groups: one in glycosidic and one in ester linkage. The amino groups of the glucosamine disaccharides are substituted by D-3-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid. The hydroxyl groups of the disaccharide backbone are acylated by tetradecanoic, he...

The anti-influenza drug oseltamivir is an ester prodrug activated by hepatic carboxylesterases. Plasma esterases also convert up to 31.8% of the parent compound to the active metabolite after 4 h ex vivo, with wide interindividual variation. This source of error is removed by adding the esterase inhibitor dichlorvos to blood collection tubes.

The rapid darkening of hydraulic oils and fluids in use has occasionally been reported. This paper summarizes the past investigations into this phenomenon, which have largely focused on the compression of air bubbles in mineral hydraulic oil. The process leads to a form of high temperature degradation known as dieseling and the probable formation of sub-micron carbonaceous particles. The import...

The morphology and cell wall composition of Bacillus coagulans, a facultative thermophile, were examined as a function of growth temperature. The morphology of the organism varied when it was grown at different temperatures; at 37 C the organism grew as individual cells which increased in length with increasing growth temperature. At 55 C it grew in long chains of cells. Cell wall prepared from...

Teichoic acids (TAs) are major wall and membrane components of most gram-positive bacteria. With few exceptions, they are polymers of glycerol-phosphate or ribitol-phosphate to which are attached glycosyl and D-alanyl ester residues. Wall TA is attached to peptidoglycan via a linkage unit, whereas lipoteichoic acid is attached to glycolipid intercalated in the membrane. Together with peptidogly...

Synthetic lipid A analogues and partial structures were analyzed and compared with natural hexaacyl lipid A from E. coli applying Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The investigations comprised (i) the measurement of the beta <=> alpha phase transition of the acyl chains via monitoring of the symmetric stretching vibration of the methylene groups, (ii) an estimation of the supramolecular ...

DDT1 MF-2 cells, which are derived from hamster vas deferens smooth muscle, contain alpha 1-adrenergic receptors (54,800 +/- 2700 sites per cell) that are coupled to stimulation of inositol phospholipid metabolism. Incubation of these cells with tumor-promoting phorbol esters, which stimulate calcium- and phospholipid-dependent protein kinase, leads to a marked attenuation of the ability of alp...
