The development of a stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscope with a wavefront modulation unit is presented. In the apparatus, two beams for introducing the SRS process were focused into the sample with an objective lens. In the pathway of the Stokes beam, which is one of the two incident beams, a spatial light modulator (SLM) was located. Using the SLM, the wavefront of the Stokes beam was...

We study the noise of the intensity variance and of the intensity correlation and structure functions measured in light scattering from a random medium in the case when these quantities are obtained by averaging over a finite number N of pixels of a digital camera. We show that the noise scales as 1/N in all cases and that it is sensitive to correlations of signals corresponding to adjacent pix...

We study the initial value problem for dissipative 2D Quasi-geostrophic equations proving local existence, global results for small initial data in the super-critical case, decay of L-norms and asymptotic behavior of viscosity solution in the critical case. Our proofs are based on a maximum principle valid for more general flows.

Recent studies have shown that the protein interface sites between individual monomeric units in biological assemblies are enriched in disease-associated non-synonymous single nucleotide variants (nsSNVs). To elucidate the mechanistic underpinning of this observation, we investigated the conformational dynamic properties of protein interface sites through a site-specific structural dynamic flex...

In this paper we study the super-critical 2D dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation. We obtain some regularization effects allowing us to prove global well-posedness result for small initial data lying in critical Besov spaces constructed over Lebesgue spaces L, with p ∈ [1,∞]. Local results for arbitrary initial data are also given.

Pitch experiments aimed at evaluating temporal pitch mechanism(s) often utilize complex sounds with only unresolved harmonic components, and a low-pass noise masker to eliminate the potential contribution of audible distortion products to the pitch percept. Herein we examine how: (i) masker induced reduction of neural distortion products (difference tone: DT; and cubic difference tone: CDT) alt...

OBJECTIVE This study longitudinally examined Subjective Well-Being (SWB) and its components, namely, Positive Feelings (PF, including global life satisfaction [GLS]), domain life satisfaction [DLS], and positive affect [PA]) as well as Negative Feelings (NF) as predictors of longevity in a general population. DESIGN Data from the Alameda County Study over 28 years (1965-1993, N = 6856) were a...

OBJECTIVE To examine health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in Italian patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and compare it with that of healthy people, and to investigate relationships among different dimensions and subscales of a generic health status measure. METHODS The Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-36 (SF-36) was applied in a cohort of 126 consecutive SLE patients and 96 h...

Synchronized time-lens source is a promising source solution for coherent Raman scattering (CRS) microscopy. Contrary to conventional (single) time-lens source which is driven by electrical signals from a fixed-frequency radio-frequency (RF) source, the synchronized time-lens source is driven by electrical signals from optoelectronic detection of the optical output of the mode-locked laser to w...
