Marinomonas sp. strain D104 was isolated from a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading consortium enriched from deep-sea sediment from the Arctic Ocean. The draft genome sequence of D104 (approximately 3.83 Mbp) contains 62 contigs and 3,576 protein-encoding genes, with a G+C content of 44.8%.

The traditional methodology includes a carbon-chain shortening strategy to produce bio-jet fuel from lipids via a two-stage process with hydrogen. Here, we propose a new solution using a carbon-chain filling strategy to convert C10 terpene and lipids to jet fuel ranged hydrocarbons with aromatic hydrocarbon ingredients in the absence of hydrogen.

Novel polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon dioxygenase gene variants were present in abundances similar to or higher than those of phnA1 from Cycloclasticus spp. at a chronically polluted subantarctic coastal marine environment in Patagonia. These novel gene variants were detected over a 6-year time span and were also present in sediments from temperate Patagonian sites.

Sphingobium sp. 22B is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading strain isolated from Patagonia, Argentina, with capabilities to withstand the environmental factors of that semiarid region. The draft genome shows the presence of genes related with responses to carbon starvation and drying environmental conditions.

Retene, dehydroabietin, and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroretene have been identi®ed by GC±MS in extractable aromatic hydrocarbon fractions produced by pyrolysis at 200 and 300 C of pure strains of the green alga Chlorella protothecoides and the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. The results suggest phytoplankton as a possible source of retene in Recent and ancient sediments. # 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All...

Pseudomonas sp. strain Ant30-3, isolated from fuel-contaminated Antarctic soil, exhibited distinctive psychrotolerant attributes and the potential for degrading aromatic hydrocarbon compounds at cold temperatures. We report here the 6.14-Mb draft genome of Ant30-3, which will provide insights into the genomic basis for the psychrotolerant and biodegradative properties of this bacterium.

Two yeast strains are enriched and isolated from industrial refinery wastewater. These strains were observed for their ability to utilize several classes of petroleum hydrocarbons substrates, such as n-alkanes and aromatic hydrocarbons as a sole carbon source. Phylogenetic analysis based on the D1/D2 variable domain and the ITS-region sequences indicated that strains HC1 and HC4 were members of...

While the role of fluorine on mass transport in polymers has been subject extensive research efforts, less attention paid to played by other halogens, such as chlorine. These efforts favored synthesis a plethora perfluoropolymers which, although exhibiting enhanced physical aging resistance relative conventional hydrocarbon-based polymers, suffer from swelling and plasticization presence hydroc...

Two-dimensional (2D) nucleation and crystallization of the helical aromatic hydrocarbon heptahelicene on the single crystalline copper(100) surface has been studied with scanning tunnelling microscopy. In contrast to previously observed racemic 2D crystals on Cu(111), separation into homochiral domains is observed for Cu(100).
