The performance of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) closely depends on internal reactant diffusion and liquid water removal. As one the key components PEMFCs, bipolar plates (BPs) provide paths for product transport. Therefore, to achieve high performance, issue is designing BPs with reasonable flow field. This paper provides comprehensive review various modifications convention...
Nanoparticulate platinum supported on high surface area carbon (Pt/C) remains the electrocatalyst of choice at cathode low-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFCs). Recycling Pt/C from spent PEMFC electrodes through environment-friendly and economic processes is industrial significance. Here, we report such a recycling process involving recovery Pt dissolution under mild cond...
Proton exchange membranes (PEMs) play an important role in the fuel cell systems. A good PEM must meet a series of requirements such as high proton conductivity, excellent mechanical strength and stability, chemical and electrochemical stability, low fuel crossover, etc. Nafion is currently the most commercially utilized electrolyte membranes for polymer electrolyte fuel cells, with high chemic...
Nowadays, proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are the most promising green energy conversion devices for portable and stationary applications. Traditionally, these devices were based onperfluoro-sulfonic acid electrolytes membranes, given the commercial name Nafion. Nafion is the mostused electrolyte membrane till now; because of its high electrochemical properties su...
Pt-free cathode catalysts for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells have been prepared by multi-step pyrolysis of FePc and PhRs, in the best of which show extensively high initial cell performance and good durability compared to other present precious-metal-free cathode catalysts to date.
In this paper, the sensor selection approach is investigated with the aim of using fewer sensors to provide reliable fuel cell diagnostic and prognostic results. The sensitivity of sensors is firstly calculated with a developed fuel cell model. With sensor sensitivities to different fuel cell failure modes, the available sensors can be ranked. A sensor selection algorithm is used in the analysi...
We report a high performance oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst based on vertically aligned, nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube (VA-NCNT) arrays. Characterization in conditions analogous to the operation of a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell show ORR taking place on the catalyst at a favorable reduction potential with a superior current density and greater rate constant.
Degradation of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) is investigated through an accelerated stress test (AST) consisting load-induced humidity cycling combined with open circuit voltage. This stressor-AST was designed to mimic real operating conditions. Commercially available membrane-electrode assemblies initial voltage about 0.7 V at 0.5 A cm?2 showed a performance drop 900 ?V h?1. ...
Abstract The development of renewable energy is increasing nowadays. Besides, the conversion systems that can work at high efficiency also increases along with decreasing availability fossil energy. fuel cell an electrochemical device converts chemical reaction directly into direct current electrical use cells as power generating in housing has increased rapidly, especially developed countries....
Proton transport property is studied by modelling the intermolecular pair correlation functions of proton ion with electrode and electrolyte a polymer fuel cell (PEMFC) using Materials-Studio then applying molecular dynamics simulation. A stable structure novel design obtained density functional theory. When assumed as anhydrous, efficiency increases. Analysis coordination numbers shows that mo...
