Plasma and urine concentrations of protein S were measured in five children with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. It was found that plasma free protein S was reduced in three out of the five patients studied. Thus, acquired free protein S deficiency does occur in children with nephrotic syndrome and is one of many factors which may place them at risk for a thromboembolic event.
OBJECTIVE To compare the occurrence of thrombophilic disorders in patients with idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head and patients with secondary osteonecrosis of the femoral head. METHODS Twenty-four consecutive patients were enrolled, with eight of them presenting idiopathic osteonecrosis and 16 presenting secondary osteonecrosis. The tests for detection of thrombophilic disorders we...
Protein-c deficiency is a rare disease that is two form: Homozygote and Heterozygote. Protein-c circulates in healthy adult Plasma is valu ranging from 70-140 Percent. Protein-C level in newborns are 20-40 Percent of normal adult level. Newborn with homozygote protein-C deficiency almost always manifest skin necrosis, fulminant purpura after birth and or central nervous system thrombosis. Mut...
A patient with deep venous thrombosis and low protein S activity during the course of Salmonella typhimurium infection is presented. Although protein S deficiency has been reported in patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation, it was not present in this patient and his protein S activity was normal after the findings of infection and deep venous thrombosis disappeared.
OBJECTIVE To determine the frequency of protein C, protein S and antithrombin deficiency, and factor V Leiden, prothrombin G20210A, and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase C677T mutations in children and adolescents with portal vein thrombosis, as well as assessing the hereditary character of this disorders. METHODS A two-year study was carried out to determine the frequency of thrombophilic ...
warfarin induced skin necrosis is a rare complication associated with the use of oral anticoagulants. most patients develop this complication at the initiation of therapy. the complication is usually associated with an underlying thrombophilia. here we describe a case of a 75 year old patient who developed skin necrosis in her both breasts during warfarin treatment for a deep vein thrombosi...
Screening for inherited thrombophilia (IT) is controversial; persons at high risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE) who benefit from screening need to be identified. We tested 533 first- and second-degree relatives of 206 pediatric VTE patients for IT (antithrombin, protein C, protein S, factor V G1691A, factor II G20210A) and determined the incidence of symptomatic VTE relative to their IT stat...
Protein S is a vitamin K-dependent plasma protein that inhibits the process of blood coagulation via activation of protein C, another vitamin K-dependent plasma protein A 58-year-old man with hereditary protein S deficiency had repeated attacks of acute myocardial infarction at age 52 and 58 years.
Post operative DVT is believed to be rare in Indonesia, and so is trombophilia. It is necessary to know the incidence of postoperative DVT in Indonesia and thrombophlia profile (protein C, S, AT III deficiency and hyperfibrinogenemia) in DVT and non DVT patient who underwent orthopedic surgery involving the hip and knee (high risk surgery). A cross sectional study was conducted in 20 patients w...
