RUBIDIUM MASER Alain Michaud Pierre Tremblay Michel Têtu

We report the operation of a Rb maser in the self-oscillating mode, using a laser diode as the optical pumping source. The maser uses a TE021 cavity surrounding a cell containing the atoms and 11 Torr of N2 as the buffer gas. The optical pumping is accomplished by using a commercial laser diode frequency-locked on the linear absorption line of an external rubidium cell. The maser output power ∗...

A scheme of Doppler-free spectroscopy is experimentally demonstrated with a co-propagating control laser locking to an atomic hyperfine transition, and the differential transmission of the probe and the reference laser is detected. Crossover resonances are eliminated by selecting the class of atoms with zero velocity in the direction of beam propagation. In addition, the sub-Doppler spectrum ex...

We report operation of a laser-diode side-pumped Nd: YAG laser with a novel pumping geometry that ensures efficient conversion of pump energy into the TEM(00) mode. Of the 1064-nm output, 11.8 mJ of energy was obtained in a 200-micros pulse with 64 mJ of pump energy at 808 nm. The overall conversion and slope efficiencies were 18% and 23%, respectively.

Laser operation of a GaN vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) is demonstrated under optical pumping with a nanoporous distributed Bragg reflector (DBR). High reflectivity, approaching 100%, is obtained due to the high index-contrast of the nanoporous DBR. The VCSEL system exhibits low threshold power density due to the formation of high Q-factor cavity, which shows the potential of na...

We have demonstrated suppression and elimination of self-pulsing in a watt-level, dual-clad, ytterbium-doped fiber laser. The addition of a long section of passive fiber in the laser cavity makes the gain recovery faster than the self-pulsation dynamics, allowing only stable cw lasing. This scheme provides a simple and practical method for eliminating self-pulsations in fiber lasers at all pump...

We report a collinear output and tunable dual-wavelength CW Ti:sapphire laser with a simple cavity configuration. The wavelength splitting range is easily tuned from 10 nm to 110 nm, which provides 56 THz bandwidth for terahertz generation. The total output power of two colors with the spatial mode of TEM(00) is between 700 mW and 300 mW, for small and large wavelength splittings, respectively,...

2014 We have developed a compact and relatively inexpensive laser source at 03BB =1.083 03BCm, suitable for optical pumping in helium. The laser is made of an LNA crystal transversely pumped by krypton arc lamps. A cw power of 800 mW has been achieved at 1.083 03BCm with a 3 GHz bandwidth. A 66 % nuclear polarization has been obtained in a 3He gas. Revue Phys. Appl. 24 (1989) 827-831 AOÛT 1989,

We describe a simple design, laser-diode-pumped cw Nd:YAG active-mirror laser and present a thermal analysis of the crystal. A cw output power of 2.4 W and an M(2) beam quality value of less than 1.9 at an incident pumping power of 8.9 W were obtained. From the thermal analysis we predict that the output power can be increased by increasing the pump beam diameter and the pump power at a constan...
