Nicotine has been investigated in the gas phase and two conformational forms were characterized through their rotational spectra. Two spectroscopic techniques have been used to obtain the spectra: a new design of broadband Fourier transform microwave (FTMW) spectroscopy with an in-phase/quadrature-phase-modulation passage-acquired-coherence technique (IMPACT) and narrowband FTMW spectroscopy wi...
The accessibility of molecular self-diffusion coefficients in anisotropic materials, such as liquid crystals or solids, by stimulated-echo-type (2)H PGSE NMR is examined. The amplitude and phase modulation of the signal in the stimulated-echo-type sequence by the static quadrupole coupling during the encoding/decoding delays is suppressed by adjusting the pulse flip angles and the phase cycle. ...
The magnetic field dependence of the *H spin-lattice relaxation time in ammonium persulphate shows pronounced minima near the JH magnetic resonance frequencies of 1,200 and 2,200 kHz. These are interpreted in terms of a model involving cross-relaxation between *H in the N H 4 ion and 170 in natural abundance in the S2O g_ ions, the latter having a much shorter spin-lattice relaxation time. A th...
Ab initio calculations of electric field gradients (EFG) and conversion to nuclear quadrupole coupling constants (NQCC) are described, with particular reference to N and l 0 , ' 'B . The correlation of EFG and NQCC for a series of boranes leads to the value 8.32 MHz/a.u. (0.0354 barn) for Q( n B). The structural variations of these microwave and single molecule calculations of 10, n B NQCC are ...
We report the first (33)S chemical shift anisotropy (CSA) data as obtained from a combined determination of (33)S CSA and quadrupole coupling parameters utilizing the observation of both the (33)S (I = 3/2) central and satellite transitions in a natural abundance (33)S MAS NMR study aimed at characterizing the two important tetrathiometallates (NH4)(2)MoS(4) and (NH4)(2)WS(4).
The conformational preferences of the simplest amine neurotransmitter 2-phenylethylamine have been investigated using molecular beam Fourier transform microwave (MB-FTMW) spectroscopy. Two new conformers have been observed together with the two previously reported by Godfrey et al. [J. Am. Chem. Soc., 1995, 117, 8204]. The (14)N nuclear quadrupole hyperfine structure has been resolved for all f...
Quadrupole excitations of even-even Ru and Pd isotopes are described within microscopic approach based on the general collective Bohr model which includes the effect of coupling with the pairing vibrations. The excitation energies and E2 transition probabilities observed in 104−114 Ru and 106−110 Pd are reproduced in the frame of the calculation containing no free parameters. Particularly inter...
We have derived analytical expressions for determining the orientation of high-symmetry single crystals from line-crossings in a single rotation plot. We demonstrate the utility of the method using the strontium-87 resonance in strontium nitrate. Employing our new method, which we call orientation of single crystals using linear approximations to NMR transits (OSCULANT), in combination with fou...

The dynamic coupling between giant resonance states and “soft” low-energy excitation modes in weakly-bound nuclei is investigated. A coupled-channels calculation is reported for the reaction 8B + Pb → p + 7Be + Pb at 83 MeV/nucleon. It is shown that the low-energy response is only marginally modified by transitions to the isovector giant dipole and isoscalar giant quadrupole resonances. 2002 ...
