The bacteriophage-encoded polysaccharide depolymerase produced in Erwinia amylovora has been cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The bacteriophage ERA103 genome was observed to consist of five EcoRI fragments, labeled as follows: A, 7.5 kilobases (kb); B, 5.0 kb; C, 2.7 kb; D, 2.1 kb; and E, 1.8 kb. A restriction map for ERA103 was also prepared. Each of the fragments were cloned into the...

background and objectives: methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (mrsa) is a major cause of nosocomial and community acquired infections. detection of mrsa in laboratories is very important for treatment and appropriate infection control. the aim of this study was to evaluate cefoxitin disk diffusion method for detection of mrsa and comparison of this method with other conventional method...

BlightBan (a.i., Pseudomonas fluorescens strain A506) has been available in recent years and other biological agents (e.g., Pantoea agglomerans strains C9-1 and E325) are being developed for fire blight control. Advances will partly depend on an understanding of interrelationships involving environment, flower development and senescence, and microorganisms. Laboratory experiments were performed...

Background: Extended spectrum beta lactamases (ESBLs) are an important cause of transferable multidrug resistance (MDR) in gram-negative bacteria. The most described ESBL genes are generally found within integron-like structures as mobile genetic elements. The aim of this study was to identify the accompanying of class 1 integrons and ESBLs in the MDR E. coli isolates. Methods: Susceptibility t...

background and objectives: pathogenic strains of escherichia coli are a common cause of acute infectious diarrhea. the aim of this study was to investigate the frequency, virulence markers and antibiotic resistance patterns of diarrheagenic e. coli (dec) isolated from adolescents and adults in hamadan, west of iran. materials and methods: a total of 187 stool samples were collected from adults ...

Background & objectives: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common types of human infections and Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia are the main causes of urinary tract infection among the gram negative bacteria. The prevalence of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) among these bacteria and hence resistant strains to β-lactam antibiotics have increased in recent decades...

Plant-associated Erwinia include pathogenic and nonpathogenic species. We report the 5.6-Mb genome sequence of Erwinia billingiae OSU19-1, isolated from a canker on a pear tree inoculated with Erwinia amylovora. OSU19-1 and a closely related European isolate, E. billingiae Eb661(T), share many similarities including 40 kb of plasmid sequence.
