ERECTOR SPINAE REFLEX STUDIES IN HEALTHY SUBJECTS REVEALED TWO RESPONSES: a 12·0±1·6 ms latency, oligosynaptic response, and a 30 to 50 ms latency response with polysynaptic reflex characteristics. There was a silent period after the first and second responses. The effect of limb position, trunk, neck, postural changes, Jendrassik manoeuvre and vibration on both responses were also evaluated.

A near loss of smell may result from conductive and/or neural olfactory disorders. However, an olfactory test to selectively detect neural disorders has not been established. We investigated whether onset latency of sensory response to intravenous odor injection can detect neural disorders in humans and mice. We showed that longer preoperative onset latency of odor recognition to intravenous od...

The latency of the early cortical wave Nb of the auditory evoked response (AER) was compared with responses to Tunstall's isolated forearm test, while the concentration of nitrous oxide was progressively reduced during light anaesthesia in seven patients. A threshold Nb latency of 44.5 ms was chosen to discriminate between an early cortical AER containing three waves and that with two waves of ...

Muscle reflexes, evoked by opposing a sudden joint displacement, may be modulated by several factors associated with the features of the mechanical perturbation. We investigated the variations of muscle reflex response in relation to the predictability of load magnitude during a reactive grasping task. Subjects were instructed to flex the fingers 2-5 very quickly after a stretching was exerted ...

We investigate the impact of monitor frame rate on the human ocular following response (OFR) and find that the response latency considerably depends on the frame rate in the range of 80-160 Hz, which is far above the flicker fusion limit. From the lowest to the highest frame rate the latency declines by roughly 10 ms. Moreover, the relationship between response latency and stimulus speed is aff...

objective(s) the present study was undertaken to investigate the nociception activity of promethazine, a tranquillizer devoid of hypnotic activity in mice. materials and methods antinociception was evaluated, using the acetic acid-induced writhing, tail flick, hot plate and formalin pain tests. results promethazine (4 and 6 mg/kg) and acetylsalicylic acid (100 mg/kg) produced a significant inhi...

The response latencies of sensory neurons typically shorten with increases in stimulus intensity. In the central auditory system this phenomenon should have a significant impact on a number of auditory functions that depend critically on an integration of precisely timed neural inputs. Evidence from previous studies suggests that the auditory system not only copes with the potential problems as...

The auditory brainstem response (ABR) was used to study the development of 8th nerve and auditory brainstem function in 71 unanesthetized gerbils. Initial replicable responses were observed on day 14. Six vertex-positive waves and a slow negative response (SNR) were obtained in response to a 100 dB HL (re adult threshold) click stimulus on day 20. A general pattern of development characterized ...

According to Iran’s folk medicine, camphor, a crystalline ketone obtained from essential oils of Cinnamomum camphora, has both sexual behavior attenuating and enhancing properties. This study examined the effects of camphor on sexual behavior in male rats. Twenty four sexually mature male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups receiving daily i.p. injections of oliv...
