Xist RNA inactivates one mammalian X chromosome (the Xi) by associating with it in cis. The mechanism of this interaction is unresolved. Jeon and Lee (2011) now show that YY1 binds both Xist RNA and DNA, thereby providing a mechanism to anchor Xist to the Xi and facilitate X chromosome inactivation.

We examined the effects of reversible inactivation of a higher-order, pattern/form-processing, postero-temporal visual (PTV) cortex on the background activities and spike-responses of single neurons in the ipsilateral cytoarchitectonic area 19 (putative area V3) of anesthetized domestic cats. Very occasionally (2/28), silencing recurrent "feedback" signals from PTV, resulted in significant and ...

We introduce the notion ofstrongly $alpha$-reversible rings which is a strong version of$alpha$-reversible rings, and investigate its properties. We firstgive an example to show that strongly reversible rings need not bestrongly $alpha$-reversible. We next argue about the strong$alpha$-reversibility of some kinds of extensions. A number ofproperties of this version are established. It is shown ...

Lacosamide is an antiseizure agent that targets voltage-dependent sodium channels. Previous experiments have suggested that lacosamide is unusual in binding selectively to the slow-inactivated state of sodium channels, in contrast to drugs like carbamazepine and phenytoin, which bind tightly to fast-inactivated states. Using heterologously expressed human Nav1.7 sodium channels, we examined the...

Photosensitized inactivation of microorganisms has been the subject of numerous studies, and various hypothetical reaction mechanisms have been proposed for the interpretation of the phenomenon. In spite of such extensive experimentation and theorizing, there still exists uncertainty concerning the inactivation processes. No at tempt will be made to review the subject since it has been analyzed...

Several theories of hippocampal function have suggested a role for the hippocampus in contextual memory retrieval. However, these theories are based on studies using permanent pretraining lesions, which confound the role of the hippocampus in learning with its role in retrieval. We argue that an alternative methodology is required to assess the role of the hippocampus in memory retrieval proces...
