Two novel compounds, 1α-methoxy-3β-hydroxy-4α-(3′,4′-dihydroxyphenyl)-1, 2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalin (1) and 1α,3β-dihydroxy-4α-(3′,4′-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalin (2), were isolated along with six known compounds 3-8 from the rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus. This paper reports the isolation and full spectroscopic characterization of these new compounds by NMR, UV, IR and MS data.
Labda-8 (17), 12-diene-15, 16-dial and coronarin E were isolated from the chloroform extract of the rhizomes of Alpinia javanica. The structures were elucidated spectroscopically. This is the first report of the isolation of coronarin E from Alpinia species. The distribution of these two labdane diterpenes within the Zingiberaceae is reported.
The hepatoprotective activity of the ethanolic extract of the rhizomes of Costus speciosus (Koenig) Sm. was studied on carbon tetrachloride treated rats. The extract registered a significant fall in the levels of serum glutamyl oxalacetic acid transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamyl pyruvate transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALKP), serum bilirubin (SBLN) and liver inflammation supported by...
Neocurdione, isoprocurcumenol, and a new sesquiterpene, 9-oxo-neoprocurcumenol, were isolated from fresh rhizomes of Curcuma aromatica and Curcuma zedoaria (Zingiberaceae) as attachment inhibitors against the blue mussel, Mytilus edulis galloprovincialis. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence.
Abstract. Andila PS, Nugroho LH. 2022. Antibacterial and phytochemical constituent of Etlingera rubroloba A.D. Poulsen extract, an endemic ginger from Wallacea Region, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 3646-3658. (Blume) AD is one the wild species Zingiberaceae which a native in region has not been studied well for its biology potential. This study aimed to investigate potential antibacterial activi...
The development, growth, and space occupation by the canopy and rhizosphere of a temperate Mediterranean seagrass meadow of Cymodocea nodosa, and the possible effects of meadow seasonal development on sediment redox conditions, were examined during the 1998 growth season. The meadow supported maximum biomass of leaves and rhizomes during July, and maximum root biomass in August. The meadow main...
BACKGROUND Rumex abyssinicus Jacq (Polygonaceae) is widely used in Ethiopia for treatment of wound and other diseases. Although reports are available in the literature on some of the claimed activities, nothing has so far been reported about the wound healing activity of R. abyssinicus. Thus, this work was initiated to investigate the wound healing and anti-inflammatory activities of 80% methan...
