The finite temperature effective potential of the Abelian Higgs Model is studied using the self-consistent composite operator method, which can be used to sum up the contributions of daisy and superdaisy diagrams. The effect of the momentum dependence of the effective masses is estimated by using a Rayleigh-Ritz variational approximation.

In this paper we prove that finite element discrete harmonic functions with mixed Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions satisfy a weak (Agmon-Miranda) maximum principle on convex polygonal domains. Using this result, we establish the stability of the Ritz projection with mixed boundary conditions in L∞ norm up to a logarithmic term.

We investigate existing and novel methods to approximate matrix functions using subspace methods. We analyze a two-sided harmonic Ritz approach and apply this to the extraction from a subspace for matrix functions. We derive all methods in various ways and provide a framework to fit in the techniques.
