BACKGROUND Although Lebanon is a highly polluted country, so far no study has specifically been designed to assess the association between outdoor air pollution and chronic bronchitis in this country. OBJECTIVE To assess the association between exposure to outdoor air pollution and chronic bronchitis in Lebanon. METHODS A pilot case-control study was conducted in two tertiary care hospitals...

Based on the panel data of 306 cities in China from 2002 to 2012, this paper investigates China's road transport fuel (i.e., gasoline and diesel) demand system by using the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) and the Quadratic AIDS (QUAIDS) models. The results indicate that own-priceelasticitiesfordifferentvehiclecategoriesrangefrom-1.215to-0.459(byAIDS)andfrom -1.399 to-0.369 (by QUAIDS). Then, ...

BACKGROUND The effects of ambient air pollution on pregnancy outcomes are under debate. Previous studies have used different air pollution exposure assessment methods. The considerable traffic-related intra-urban spatial variation needs to be considered in exposure assessment. Residential proximity to traffic is a proxy for traffic-related exposures that takes into account within-city contrasts...

BACKGROUND Particulate matter and proximity to large roadways may promote disease mechanisms, including systemic inflammation, hormonal alteration, and vascular proliferation, that may contribute to the development and severity of endometriosis. OBJECTIVE Our goal was to determine the association of air pollution exposures during adulthood, including distance to road, particulate matter<2.5 μ...

One of the most difficult and expensive tasks in making noise pollution maps is the collection and processing of the data needed to create acoustic models. In the case of road traffic noise maps, obtaining speed data for light and heavy vehicles a problem that has usually been avoided by using a road’s speed limit or by making assumptions based on experience from similar road types. Here global...

Although water and land pollution are very dangerous, air pollution has its own peculiarities due to its transboundary dispersion of pollutants over the entire world. In any well planned urban set up, industrial pollution takes a back seat and vehicular emissions take precedence as the major cause of urban air pollution. In the present study, Air pollution tolerance index was calculated for var...

The comprehensive Gas Aerosol Modelling Evaluation System (GAMES) was used to investigate the impact of EU Directives on road traffic emissions scheduled for 2010 on photochemical pollution. The area under study is located in Northern Italy, where orographic features and the emissive mix represent a critical issue in ozone production and accumulation processes. The long-term period AprilSeptemb...

Airborne dust, which contains high levels of toxic metals, is recognized as one of the most harmful environment component. The purpose of this study was to evaluate heavy metals pollution in dustfall from bus stations in Beijing, and to perform a risk assessment analysis for adult passengers. The concentrations of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb, V and Zn were determined by inductively coupled plasm...

Fine grained 1Hz Carbon Monoxide pollution data were collected on a busy road in Hyderabad, India. In this paper we report the findings from analysing the experimental data, in which it was found that the data were log-normally distributed and nonlinear. The dominant frequencies at peak hours were caused by the pattern of traffic flow.

A four year long research programme divided into four phases has been designed for the first time to assess the combined Noise-Air quality and combined exposure to Noise-Air pollution at the curbside open-air microenvironment of Kolkata city, India. The results and the findings of the different phases of study had already been published. The objective of the review work is to fuse the findings ...
