An outbreak of postsurgical infections caused by rapidly growing mycobacteria has been ongoing in Brazil since 2004. The degrees of similarity of the rpoB and hsp65 sequences from the clinical isolates and the corresponding sequences from both the Mycobacterium massiliense and the M. bolletii type strains were above the accepted limit for interspecies variability, leading to conflicting identif...

Globally, Pakistan with population of around 180 million moved up two spots to 6 in the list of countries with the highest number of tuberculosis (TB) patients in the world according to WHO report (2011). Global TB control is further challenged by drug-resistant TB. For controlling the spread and better understanding of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) isolates circulating in this region, it ...

Four aerobic bacteria, designated MP5ACTX2(T), MP5ACTX8(T), MP5ACTX9(T) and S6CTX5A(T), were isolated from tundra soil of north-western Finland (69° 03' N 20° 50' E). Cells of all isolates were Gram-negative, non-motile rods. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that they belonged to the genus Granulicella of subdivision 1 of the phylum Acidobacteriahttp://dx.doi.org/10.1601/nm.7918. 16S rRNA gene s...

Ninety-seven animal, human, and dairy Streptococcus porcinus or Streptococcus pseudoporcinus isolates in the CDC Streptococcus strain collection were evaluated on the basis of DNA-DNA reassociation, 16S rRNA and rpoB gene sequencing, conventional biochemical and Rapid ID 32 Strep identification methods, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing to determine their taxonomic status, characteristic...

We studied the presence of mutations in the whole katG gene and specific regions of the oxyR-ahpC and mabA-inhA regulatory region in 61 Mycobacterium tuberculosis isoniazid-resistant isolates. An 81-bp region of the rpoB gene was also sequenced in 17 rifampin-resistant strains. Alterations in the katG gene were detected in 55% of the isolates. Mutation in codon 315 was the most prevalent (32%)....

BACKGROUND Taxonomic and phylogenetic studies of Mycobacterium species have been based around the 16sRNA gene for many years. However, due to the high strain similarity between species in the Mycobacterium genus (94.3% - 100%), defining a valid phylogenetic tree is difficult; consequently, its use in estimating the boundaries between species is limited. The sequence of the rpoB gene makes it an...

The temporal change of phenotypes during the adaptive process remains largely unexplored, as do the genetic changes that affect these phenotypic changes. Here we focused on three mutations that rose to high frequency in the early stages of adaptation within 12 Escherichia coli populations subjected to thermal stress (42 °C). All the mutations were in the rpoB gene, which encodes the RNA polymer...

Several reports have indicated that infection with Non-Tuberculosis Mycobacteria (NTM) is increasing worldwide. Therefore, monitoring species causing micobacterial infection in any region is of great importance. This study was going to detect, differentiate, and identify pathogenic mycobacteria in primary clinical samples. Eighty samples collected from tuberculosis suspected patients in Isfahan/I...
