Small Gap Chambers of 5 and 9 cm strips were exposed to a 5 kHz/mm pion beam of 300 MeV in the πM1 area at the PSI. We present the discharge rates and the strip failures measured at different voltages. The results are compared to the LHCC requirements. We extrapolate the expected safety margin and show the improvement that was obtained with two chambers equipped with GEMs. Summary :

Selenium (Se) is an essential metalloid trace element that has a very narrow margin of safety between the toxic and deficient doses in animals and humans. This paper highlights about the beneficial and harmful effects of Se in livestock productivity and health besides presenting some information on its relation to Khari disease of buffaloes in Baitadi and Darchula districts and ways to mitigate...

useful method of distinguishing these two malignancies [5]. Early detection and treatment with a generous safety margin is paramount to reduce the risk of local recurrence and metastasis. After surgical treatment, careful follow-up is important. We report a rare case of primary BSCC on the skin of the hand. BSCC is an uncommon, histologically distinct, high-grade variant of squamous cell carcin...

Each of the current five candidate algorithms for AES satisfies a different balance of these constraints; the ‘best’ algorithm depends on circumstances, which are impossible to know beforehand. Furthermore, one of the principal requirements that of security of the algorithm cannot easily be measured; subjective judgements therefore must be made (based, for instance, on notions of ‘safety margin...

HIGHT is a 32-round block cipher with a 64-bit block size and a 128-bit user key, which was proposed at CHES ’06 for low-resource applications like RFID. In this paper, we present an impossible differential attack on 25-round HIGHT, a related-key rectangle attack on 26round HIGHT, and finally a related-key impossible differential attack on 28-round HIGHT. Our result suggests that the safety mar...

In this paper, we formulate the feasibility problem corresponding to a filter design problem as a convex optimization problem. Combined with a bisection rule this leads to an algorithm of minimizing the design parameter in the filter design problem. A safety margin is introduced to solve the numerical difficulties when solving this type of problems numerically. The numerical experiments illustr...

Key Points: • The clinical acceptance of intra-articular PRP has preceded needed scientific evidence • The relative levels of platelets, WBCs and RBCs in PRP are device and technique dependent. The optimum dose of platelets and/or WBCs as well as the necessity for activation is unknown. • A high margin of safety and anti-inflammatory effects appear consistent in human clinical studies. • Indica...

We develop efficient Monte Carlo methods for estimating the failure probability of a system. An example of the problem comes from an approach for probabilistic safety assessment of nuclear power plants known as riskinformed safety-margin characterization, but it also arises in other contexts, e.g., structural reliability, catastrophe modeling, and finance. We estimate the failure probability us...

To the Editor:—We read with interest article by Jonsson et al. suggesting that nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents concentration-dependently inhibit human neuronal acetylcholine autoreceptors (nAChRs). The authors argue that the inhibition of the presynaptic 3 2 nAChR subtype plays an important role in tetanic and train-of-four fade seen during nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockade. ...

Drivers aim to maintain their vehicle within a number of individual situated safety margins. Safety margin violations are characterized by rapid strong corrective steering. Steering entropy was introduced to quantify drivers’ efforts to maintain their lateral safety margins. In the original steering entropy, several computational assumptions were made. The objective is to scrutinize and motivat...
