It is widely known and accepted that multicarrier communication is effective in frequency selective channels if resource allocation strategies are used, namely per-subcarrier adaptive modulation and coding. We discuss its efficiency for uniform resource allocation in terms of fundamental information-theoretic measures. These results are relevant to broadcast systems and, more generally, systems...

This paper presents a control strategy for an automotive selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, for which the feedback is based on a NOx sensor measurement. This NOx sensor is cross-sensitive to NH3, which is critical for control purposes: a study of the closed-loop dynamics is performed which permits to calibrate the control strategy. Experimental results illustrate the performance of the...

A novel wavelength-selective photonic time-delay filter is proposed and demonstrated. The device consists of an optical phased-array waveguide grating in a recirculating feedback configuration. It can function as a true-time-delay generator for squint-free beam steering in optically controlled phased-array antennas and as an encoding-decoding filter for wavelength code-division multiple access.

Operation of a novel wavelength selective electro-optic flip-flop is demonstrated. The flip-flop consists of an anti-reflection coated two-section semiconductor laser diode with optical feedback from two fiber Bragg gratings. Electrical set and reset signals cause the lasing output to toggle between two distinct lasing wavelengths with a mode suppression ratio of greater than -35 dBm.

In this paper, we propose a decoder for low-complexity equalization of coded frequency selective multiple-input multiple-output channels. The decoder combines the Parallel Decision Feedback Decoding (PDFD) and the List-type approach. This alternative achieves a good trade-off between performance and complexity even when the channel is not minimum phase.

We introduce a new method for joint equalization and decoding for frequency selective fading channels working with a highly parallel, analog, feedback network. The analog network is continuous in time and naturally use soft values throughout the equalization and decoding process. It also delivers soft values as output. We will present rst results on the performance of this system.

We report the experimental demonstration of a photorefractive dynamic holographic memory that has a simple feedback architecture stabilized through a novel spatial sampling technique. By using dynamic copying to compensate for photorefractive decay, this memory provides nondestructive readout, selective erasure and rewriting, and real-time adaptation of holograms through an arbitrarily large nu...

In most commercial wideband code division multiple access systems, the transmitted signal in the downlink channel is spread by orthogonal codes to accommodate different users. However, frequency selective fading destroys the orthogonality and causes multiple access interference. Application of a chip level decision feedback equaliser with the Alamouti transmit diversity scheme is proposed to re...

The visual features of an object are processed by multiple, functionally specialized areas of cerebral cortex. When several objects are seen simultaneously, what mechanism preserves the association of features that belong to a single item? We address this question—known as the ‘‘binding problem’’—by examining combinatorial feature selectivity of neurons in area V2. In recording from anesthetize...

Past research has shown that when discrete responses are associated with a perceptual goal, performers may have difficulty detecting stimuli that are commensurate with that goal. Three experiments are reported here that test whether such effects extend to sequence production. In Experiment 1, participants performed 8-note melodies repeatedly, and on each trial a single tone could be altered wit...
