Interfacial charge-transfer absorption (IFCTA) provides information concerning the barriers to charge transfer between molecules and the energy levels of a metal/semiconductor and the magnitude of the electronic coupling and could thus provide a powerful tool for understanding interfacial charge-transfer kinetics. Here we utilize a previously published model (J. Phys. Chem. B 2005, 109, 10251) ...
Thermal vibrations and the dynamic disorder they create can detrimentally affect the transport properties of van der Waals bonded molecular semiconductors. The low-energy nature of these vibrations makes it difficult to access them experimentally, which is why we still lack clear molecular design rules to control and reduce dynamic disorder. In this study we discuss the promising organic semico...
Gold contacts to most III-V and II-VI compounds position the Fermi level at the interface well into the energy gaps of the semiconductors. To position the Fermi level closer to a conduction-band edge, particularly in the more ionic semiconductors, one may substitute a more electropositive element like AI for the Au contact. To position the Fermi level closer to a valence-band edge, however, the...
Organic semiconductors including rubrene, Alq3, copper phthalocyanine and pentacene are crystallized by the eutectic melt crystallization. Those organic semiconductors form good eutectic systems with the various volatile crystallizable additives such as benzoic acid, salicylic acid, naphthalene and 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene. Due to the formation of the eutectic system, organic semiconductors havin...
The application of the Lifshitz theory to describe the thermal Casimir force between dielectrics and semiconductors is considered. It is shown that for all true dielectrics (i.e., for all materials having zero conductivity at zero temperature) the inclusion of a nonzero conductivity arising at nonzero temperature into the model of dielectric response leads to the violation of the Nernst heat th...
This review presents the recent advances in synthesis of organic semiconductors using C–H functionalization and naturally sourced building blocks to facilitate large-scale production commercialization semiconductors.
Properties of dislocations in semiconductors are reviewed, mainly dislocation velocities and influence on transport properties. Applications are described.
Rapid development of information technologies originates from the exponential increase in the density of information that can be processed, stored, and transfer by the unit area of relevant devices. There is, however, a growing amount of evidences that the progress achieved in this way approaches its limits. Various novel ideas put forward to circumvent barriers ahead are described. Particular ...
An overview is given of the experimental and theoretical evidence that SmB, is a homogeneously mixed valent semiconductor. It is emphasized that the experimental transport properties imply that the Fermi surface is either extremely small or non-existent, and that rather general theoretical considerations support the possibility of a gap at the Fermi level.
Perhaps the most prominent characteristic of the electron is the fact that it carries electric charge. Together with the rules of quantum mechanics, the electric forces among electrons and nuclei determine the chemical properties of atoms and molecules. Manipulation of electrons in semiconductors using electric forces, which couple to the charge, is the principle behind the revolution in the el...
