A novel, asymmetric DPP bridge/core was synthesized and tested in DSC devices. By desymmetrising the DPP core/bridge, a remarkable IPCE of >80% and a maximum power conversion efficiency of 7.7% were achieved. With the use of a wide-bandgap co-sensitizer, 8.6% PCE was realized under standard AM1.5G sunlight.

Rational modification of a natural RNA-binding peptide with a lanthanide EDTA chelator, and a phenanthroline ligand yields a highly selective luminescent sensor. The sensing mechanism relies on the RNA-triggered folding of the peptide into a β-hairpin, which promotes the coordination of the phenanthroline sensitizer, and the efficient sensitization of complexed lanthanide ions.

Room temperature near-IR phosphorescence of naphthalenediimide (NDI) was observed with N^N Pt(II) bisacetylide complex (Pt-NDI) in which the NDI was connected to Pt(II) center via acetylide. Pt-NDI shows intense absorption of visible light and long-lived NDI-localized excited state ((3)IL) (τ(T) = 22.3 μs). Pt-NDI was used as a triplet sensitizer for upconversion.
