We present estimates of the angular power spectra of the synchrotron radiation intensity fluctuations at 6 and 20 cm for the shell type supernova remnant Cas A and the filled-centre Crab supernova remnant. We find that the intensity fluctuations of both sources have a power law power spectrum with index −3.24 ± 0.03. This power law power spectrum is consistent with the magnetohydrodynamic turbu...

A linear perturbation method is used to solve two-dimensional heat conduction problem in which a liquid becomes solidified by heat transfer to a plane mold of finite thickness. Heat flux drawn from the lower surface of the mold is approximately uniform, but contains a small sinusoidal perturbation in one space dimension. Numerical results are obtained for the consequent sinusoidal perturbation ...

Polymer-inorganic core-shell nanofibers were produced by two-step approach; electrospinning and atomic layer deposition (ALD). First, nylon 6,6 (polymeric core) nanofibers were obtained by electrospinning, and then zinc oxide (ZnO) (inorganic shell) with precise thickness control was deposited onto electrospun nylon 6,6 nanofibers using ALD technique. The bead-free and uniform nylon 6,6 nanofib...

Modeling of liquid ceramic precursor droplets axially injected into a plasma is presented. Droplets undergo heating and solvent vaporization leading to high solute concentration near droplet surface. At a critical solute super-saturation concentration, precipitation is postulated to occur forming a precipitate shell around liquid core. Internal pressurization and rupture of shell occur subseque...

In this study, the ability to control the shell thickness of hollow polymeric microspheres prepared using electrohydrodynamic processing at ambient temperature was investigated. Polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSQ) was used as a model material for the microsphere shell encapsulating a core of liquid perfluorohexane (PFH). The microspheres were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy...

Hollow Ru nanoparticles with ~14 nm diameter and ~2 nm shell thickness are reported for the first time, by removal of Ni from the delicately designed Ni@Ru core@shell NPs. Such hollow Ru NPs exhibit enhanced catalytic activity in the dehydrogenation of ammonia borane with respect to solid ones.

The layer-by-layer processing of Au/Au(x)Pd(1-x) core/alloy nanoparticles via microwave irradiation (MWI) based hydrothermal heating is described. Alloy shell growth was monitored by the attenuation of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) as a function of shell thickness and composition. Discrete dipole approximation (DDA) correlated the SPR to particle morphology.

The static buckling of a cylindrical shell of a four-lobed cross section of variable thickness subjected to non-uniform circumferentially compressive loads is investigated based on the thin-shell theory. Modal displacements of the shell can be described by trigonometric functions, and Fourier’s approach is used to separate the variables. The governing equations of the shell are reduced to eight...

The development of efficient photocatalytic routines for producing hydrogen is of great importance as society moves away from energy sources derived from fossil fuels. Recent studies have identified that the addition of metal nanoparticles to TiO2 greatly enhances the photocatalytic performance of these materials towards the reforming of alcohols for hydrogen production. The core-shell structur...

We revisit the asymptotic convergence properties – with respect to the thickness parameter – of the earlier-proposed 3D-shell model. This shell model is very attractive for engineering applications, in particular due to the possibility of directly using a general 3D constitutive law in the corresponding finite element formulations. We establish strong convergence results for the 3D-shell model ...
