in the present study, we aimed to screen indigenous rhizospheric bacillus strains, capable of producing antiphytopathogenic and plant growth promoting traits. isolate cts-b19 and cts-g24 exhibited quite noticeable antagonistic activity initially against fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri and rhizoctonia bataticola, and, later, against a panel of phytopathogens. partial 16s rrna sequence analysis ...

Microbial iron chelates, called siderophores, are synthesized by bacteria and fungi in response to low iron availability in the environment. The present review summarizes structural details of siderophore ligands with respect to their transport properties. This presentation is largely centred on the occurrence and function of siderophores in the various bacterial and fungal genera.

19 Preliminary enthusiasm over the encouraging spectrum and in vitro activity of siderophore conjugates 20 such as MB-1 has recently been tempered by unexpected variability in in vivo efficacy. The need for 21 these conjugates to compete for iron with endogenously-produced siderophores has exposed a 22 significant liability for this novel antibacterial strategy. Here, we have exploited dependen...

Lipocalin 2, an iron-siderophore-binding protein, converts embryonic kidney mesenchyme to epithelia. We found that lipocalin 2 could also convert 4T1-Ras-transformed mesenchymal tumor cells to an epithelial phenotype, increase E-cadherin expression, and suppress cell invasiveness in vitro and tumor growth and lung metastases in vivo. The Ras-MAPK pathway mediated the epithelial to mesenchymal t...

A putative operon of four genes implicated in the synthesis of the chromophore moiety of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa siderophore pyoverdine, dubbed pvcABCD (where pvc stands for pyoverdine chromophore), was cloned and sequenced. Mutational inactivation of the pvc genes abrogated pyoverdine biosynthesis, consistent with their involvement in the biosynthesis of this siderophore. pvcABCD expression...

Siderophore type chelates were isolated from nutrient enriched seawater collected from coastal and near shore environments and detected using a novel high performance liquid chromatography – electrospray ionisation – mass spectrometric technique. Seawater was enriched with added glucose, ammonia and phosphate, and incubated for four days. Seven different siderophore type compounds were detected...

A search of the pvd pyoverdine biosynthesis locus of Pseudomonas aeruginosa identified an open reading frame, PA2387, whose product exhibited a sequence similar to those of a number of so-called extracytoplasmic- function sigma factors responsible for siderophore-dependent expression of iron-siderophore receptors in Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas putida. Deletion of this gene, dubbed fpvI, co...

The opportunistic fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus adapts to iron limitation by upregulation of iron uptake mechanisms including siderophore biosynthesis and downregulation of iron-consuming pathways to spare iron. These metabolic changes depend mainly on the transcription factor HapX. Consistent with the crucial role of iron in pathophysiology, genetic inactivation of either HapX or the s...
