Procedural texturing is commonly used to increase visual complexity and realism in rendered scenes. Procedural texture basis functions, such as Perlin’s noise function, are often built on hash functions defined over the integer lattice. These hash functions are usually based on permutation tables and have a short period. This causes procedural textures to repeat. In this paper, we present a met...
We present three methods for texturing point models from sample textures. The first method, the point parameterization method, uses a fast distortion-bounded parameterization algorithm to flatten the point model’s surface into one or more 2D patches. The sample texture is mapped onto these patches and alpha blending is used to minimize the discontinuity in the gaps between the patches. The seco...
We address the problem of texturing flat surfaces by spray-painting through 3D printed stencils. We propose a system that (1) decomposes an image into alpha-blended layers; (2) computes a stippling given a transparency channel; (3) generates a 3D printed stencil given a stippling and (4) simulates the effects of spray-painting through the stencil.
Spectral Textures are rendered by multi-layer texturing, where each layer provides a certain band of spatial frequencies for the final texture. Transparency channels introduce statistical dependencies between the layers. Figures 1 shows series of screenshots that illustrate the multilayer approach of spectral texturing. The left column shows the single texture layers, increasing in scale from t...
Figure 1: Overview of our method. Given a casual image obtained from the Internet, and a triangle mesh model, we compute the texture mapping and shape deformation interleaving. This example uses a tiger image downloaded from the Internet with low tails, and its head face to the ground, but the model originally has straight tail in the air, and facing to the front. The output is a model not only...
Texturing gives a new quality to a 3D model making it more similar to real object and more adequate for human perception and understanding. Recent progress in means for spatial data acquisition and in 3D reconstruction techniques creates a background for metric 3D models generation, which could be successfully used instead of a real object for purposes of various investigations dealing with geo...
We consider a certain tiling problem of a planar region in which there are no long horizontal or vertical strips consisting of copies of the same tile. Intuitively speaking, we would like to create a dappled pattern with two or more kinds of tiles. We give an efficient algorithm to solve the problem, and discuss its applications in texturing.
Surface engineering is widely used in different areas, such as the aerospace industry or the biomechanical and medical fields. Specifically, laser surface modification techniques may obtain specific surface finishes for special applications. In texturing laser procedures, the control of processing parameters has a great influence on the geometry and characteristics of the treated area. When the...
This paper deals with modelling point sets with attributes. A point set in a geometric space of an arbitrary dimension is a geometric model of a real object or process under consideration. An attribute is a mathematical model of a real object or process property of an arbitrary nature (material, photometric, physical, statistical, etc.) defined for any point of the point set. We provide a surve...
Abstract Micro- and nanoscale structures produced on surfaces of metals, polymers, ceramics, glasses have many important applications in different fields such as engineering, medical, biological, etc. Laser ablation using ultrashort pulses has become the prominent technique for generating surface various functional applications. Ultrashort laser proved to be ideal producing with dimensions down...
