Grid computing can be seen nowadays as a promising distributed environment to form federated GIS. As supposed, spatial query processing within this distributed environment is a challenge. This paper presents Spatial Query Broker (SQB), an architecture for spatial distributed query processing in a grid computing context. This implementation aims at executing spatial queries in a dynamic manner.

The location and motion of sounds in space are important cues for encoding the auditory world. Spatial processing is a core component of auditory scene analysis, a cognitively demanding function that is vulnerable in Alzheimer’s disease. Here we designed a novel neuropsychological battery based on a virtual space paradigm to assess auditory spatial processing in patient cohorts with clinically ...

Congenital amusia is a neurogenetic disorder of music processing that is currently ascribed to a deficit in pitch processing. A recent study challenges this view and claims the disorder might arise as a consequence of a general spatial-processing deficit. Here, we assessed spatial processing abilities in two independent samples of individuals with congenital amusia by using line bisection tasks...

Research on figure-ground organization focused primarily on identifying cues that are used to establish regions as figure or ground. Recently, others have demonstrated behavioral consequences of figure-ground assignment, including speeded responses and higher accuracy for figures. However, other outcomes of figure-ground assignment have been demonstrated. For example, figures’ spatial resolutio...

Spatial alarms are fundamental capability for location based advertisements and location based reminders. One of the most challenging problems in scaling spatial alarm processing is to compute alarm free regions (AFR) such that mobile objects traveling within an AFR can safely hibernate the alarm evaluation process until approaching the nearest alarm of interest. In this paper we argue that mai...

This paper proposes neuro-fuzzy engineering as a novel approach to spatial data analysis and for building decision making systems based on spatial information processing, and the development of this approach by the authors is presented in this paper. It has been implemented as a software environment and is illustrated on a case study problem. 1 Address correspondence to: Assoc. Prof. N.K. Kasab...

The study of spatial relations has been an important research topic in a number of different domains. As a result several relation-based systems have been developed to represent and process spatial relations. This paper identifies the concepts underlying the representation of spatial relations and outlines the processes involved in relation-based information processing. In the paper we also dis...

Spatial joins are one of the most important operations for combining spatial objects of several relations. In this paper, spatial join processing is studied in detail for extended spatial objects in two-dimensional data space. We present an approach for spatial join processing that is based on three steps. First, a spatial join is performed on the minimum bounding rectangles of the objects retu...

The aim of this paper is to clarify the role played by referential factors in the development of a spatial code during reading. Specifically, it explores whether this spatial encoding is determined by referential events related to a change in narrative mode which affect the integration process. Participants read narrative texts consisting of two paragraphs in which the point of view either chan...
