Spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) is useful as a noninvasive means of assessing autonomic function in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, standard spectral measures, such as the ratio of low-frequency to high-frequency power (LHR) and normalized high-frequency power (NHFP), can be confounded by the abnormal breathing patterns that occur during sleep. To circumv...

This thesis describes the development of statistical models to determine the relationships between vegetation indices and bush bean plant nitrogen stress levels thereby help early detection of bush bean nutritional stress. Two approaches, statistical analysis by SAS procedure and genetic algorithm (GA) were employed. Polynomial regression was used to fit data under all possible two-bands combin...

We present Lick spectral indices for a complete sample of 139 candidate super metal-rich stars of different luminosity class (MK type from V to I). For 91 of these stars we were able to identify, in an accompanying paper (Malagnini et al. 2000), the fundamental atmosphere parameters. This confirms that at least 2/3 of the sample consists of stars with [Fe/H] in excess of +0.1 dex. Optical indic...

Past research has shown that remotely sensed spectral information can be used to predict tree health and vitality. Recent developments in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have now made it possible derive such at the stand scale from high-resolution imagery. We visible multispectral bands UAV imagery calculate a set of indices for 52,845 individual crowns within 38 forest stands western Canada. t...

The selection of metrics for spectral matches is fundamental to MVSI (multi-channel visible-spectrum imaging) otherwise known as spectral imaging. The metrics used for spectral matches can impact everything from the selection of the filters used for multi-channel capture to the evaluation of the spectral estimation. However, there is, as yet, no consensus on which metric should be applied for s...

For a continuous curve of families of Dirac type operators we define a higher spectral flow as a K-group element. We show that this higher spectral flow can be computed analytically by '̂-forms and is related to the family index in the same way as the spectral flow is related to the index. We introduce a notion of Toeplitz family and relate its index to the higher spectral flow. Applications to ...

In this paper a new methodology for the diagnosing of skin cancer on images of dermatologic spots using image processing is presented. Currently skin cancer is one of the most frequent diseases in humans. This methodology is based on Fourier spectral analysis by using filters such as the classic, inverse and k-law nonlinear. The sample images were obtained by a medical specialist and a new spec...

We report on simultaneous ASCA and ROSAT observations of the Seyfert galaxy NGC5548 made during the ASCA Performance Verification phase. Spectral features due to a warm absorber and reflection are clearly seen in the X-ray spectra. We find that the continuum spectral shape differs between the ASCA and ROSAT datasets. The photon-index obtained from the ROSAT PSPC exceeds that from the ASCA SIS ∆...
