This paper examines the properties of a regularization of the Burgers equation in one and multiple dimensions using a filtered convective velocity, which we have dubbed as the convectively filtered Burgers (CFB) equation. A physical motivation behind the filtering technique is presented. An existence and uniqueness theorem for multiple dimensions and a general class of filters is proven. Multip...
They are of first order, second order, third order 27 and fourth order, respectively. The third-order Burg28 ers equation, similar to the second-order ones, appear 29 in many physical and engineering fields [8–10], such 30 as the plasma physics and fluid mechanics. In addi31 tion, these equations play a key role in nonlinear the32 ory and mathematical physics, in particular in the inte33 grable...
We investigate solution properties of a class of evolutionary partial differential equations (PDEs) with viscous and inviscid regularization. An equation in this class of PDEs can be written as an evolution equation, involving only first-order spatial derivatives, coupled with the Helmholtz equation. A recently developed two-step iterative method (Chiu et al., JCP, 228, (2009), pp. 8034-8052) i...
It is shown that expansion waves for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations are nonlinearly stable. The expansion waves are constructed for the compressible Euler equations based on the inviscid Burgers equation. Our result shows that Navier-Stokes equations and Euler equations are timeasymptotically equivalent on the level of expansion waves. The result is proved using the energy method, mak...
This article concerns the dressing method for solving of multidimensional nonlinear Partial Differential Equations. In particular, we join hierarchy of matrix Burgers type equation with hierarchies of equations integrable by the Inverse Spectral Transform (IST). Example of resonance interaction of wave packets in (3+1)-dimensions is given.
The paper develops the method for construction of the families of particular solutions to the nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDE) without relation to the complete integrability. Method is based on the specific link between algebraic matrix equations and PDE. Example of (2+2)-dimensional generalization of Burgers equation is given. PACS numbers: 05.45.-a, 05.45.Yv
In this Letter, based on the idea of homogeneous balance (HB) method and with help of MATHEMATICA, we obtain a new auto-Bäcklund transformation for compound KdV-type and compound KdV–Burgers-type equations with nonlinear terms of any order. Then based on the Bäcklund transformation, some solutions for these two equations are derived. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
