If research, also in the technology field, produces interesting results, little attention has devoted to education and to the relationship between the first and the second. But the wealth of knowledge now available (even for web accessibility) is profoundly changing the approach to design and, therefore, to university education. This contribution is to open up a debate and to encourage a confro...

While each of these alliances vary in focus on K-16 STEM education access, much of those efforts are targeted at improving educational technology accessibility for student populations with visual, mobility, health and learning barriers. The rapid development of communication and information technology has made electronic voting technologically and economically feasible. In this study, we will examine the differential impact of four electronic voting system (EVS) characteristics (privacy, accessibility, mobility, and accuracy) on voter participation intention (i.e., EVS voting) and on preferred EVS mechanism (telephone, Web-bas...

This demonstration presents a first operable pilot of the Language Analysis Portal (LAP), an ongoing project within the Norwegian CLARINO initiative that aims at providing easy access to Language Technology (LT) tools running on a powerful High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. The system is built on top of the Galaxy framework, giving users an on-line platform where they can design experime...

The [hid] toolkit is a set of software objects for designing computer-based gestural instruments. All too frequently, computer-based performers are tied to the keyboard-mousemonitor model, narrowly constraining the range of possible gestures. A multitude of gestural input devices are readily available, making it easy to utilize a broader range of gestures. Human Interface Devices (HIDs) such as...

Patients seek attention and treatments to various types of diseases and symptoms. Diseases infection and symptoms are often not predictive. Normally, there is a spread and movement of people across the geographical locations, of both the rural and urban communities, in countries including Namibia. As such, healthcare could be needed at any location, and at any time. There is significant mobilit...

Despite human-centered approaches to the development of electronic text, the visually impaired remain particularly susceptible to oversight. The digital realm has a strong bias toward visually-oriented representation, and is generally unaware of accessibility issues. To overcome this potential digital divide, efforts are underway in the development of both assistive reading technologies and acc...

Wearable technology (WT) provides new ways of performing tasks by enabling easy access to valuable information regarding the wearer and their environment. Organisations are seeking to innovate in order to gain a competitive advantage and WT has the potential to improve an organisation’s processes as well as their product/service offering. This research looks at the factors that influence an org...

Touchscreens are hardly accessible to the blind. Assistive technologies offered by mobile device manufacturers do not eliminate all the obstacles. We propose new solutions that would improve the accessibility of touch interfaces in Android-based devices. We present the concept of services that provide functions and resources of the touchable Android-based devices for blind with Braille notetakers.
